Could the Pelicans be on the move?
Apparently there are some rumblings that it could happen after their current lease expires in 2024:

Seattle Pelicans? Las Vegas Pelicans?

Seattle has more people and more wealth than Vegas and is better suited to be a profitable location for an NBA franchise. Both have up-to-date arenas. The company that controls the arena could make the lease either more or less profitable for an NBA team in either place, depending on their business arrangement with the NBA owner or whether they feel pressured or incentivized to make it easier for an NBA team to land there.

I think Seattle will land a franchise some way, somehow. Although the article makes mention that the Timberwolves could ultimately end up there or that Seattle and Las Vegas could be homes to expansion.

Interesting part about the NBA is they take up a lot of markets that aren't tapped by the NFL or MLB. Several interesting cities that don't have NBA teams.

RE: Could the Pelicans be on the move?
Largest metros without an NBA team, in population order, noting existing major pro teams in the market:

Seattle, 4.0 million + (NFL, MLB, NHL)
San Diego, 3.3 million * (MLB)
Tampa, 3.2 million * (NFL, MLB, NHL)
St. Louis, 2.8 million (MLB, NHL)
Baltimore, 2.7 million * (NFL, MLB)
Las Vegas, 2.3 million + (NFL, NHL)
Pittsburgh, 2.3 million (NFL, MLB, NHL)
Austin, 2.2 million *
Cincinnati, 2.2 million (NFL, MLB)
Kansas City, 2.2 million (NFL, MLB)
Columbus, 2.1 million * (NHL)
Nashville, 2.0 million (NFL, NHL)

+ is for new or new-ish arenas. Not many of those; AFAIK Seattle and Las Vegas have the only arenas suitable for NBA that are new or completely remodeled within the last 10 years.

* is for metros close enough to an NBA team that a move could be blocked by the league.

Not listed are places with arenas that are so close to existing teams that the chance of a move being blocked is about 100%, eg Anaheim and Newark.

For any metro closer to 2 million in population that already has more than one major franchise, query whether adding an NBA team is "too much" for that market.

Pittsburgh is closer to Cleveland than SD is to LA or Phoenix. And if they move to Seattle I'd expect them to rename themselves the SuperSonics and claim that history.

An NBA team will not work in Pittsburgh. I'd love to see it happen.

RE: Could the Pelicans be on the move?
I'm confident the Pelicans will become the Seattle Sonics 2.0.

I see an interesting opportunity in Saint Louis - the home arena for the NHL Blues is nearing 30 years old. They could use the Dome as a temporary home, renovate or rebuild the Scottrade Center, and share it with a NBA team. This doesn't need to happen right away if time is needed for a 32nd team, but the best time to strike is coming up soon.

Would there be an appetite for the NBA to return to Vancouver?
