The whole “use your words very carefully” seems to rear its head most in the written word. In-person, most reasonable people are able to read intent. Most of my black friends prefer I say they are black, not POC or African-Americans. I agree that tiptoeing through terminology can be tiresome.
I don’t think midget is the equivalent term to black - just saying/ I don’t think it’s something you would say to a little person it’s viewed as derogatory.

I address them as "the vertically challenged"
I have a big family, I'm 6-2, my wife is 5-9, my youngest son is 6-4 and my oldest son is 5-11. My oldest son married a girl that is 5-0 (on a good day) and my youngest's girlfriend is 4-11. Being the non PC family....the sort jokes when the girls are around flow freely. How do we "punish" my daughter inlaw? We hid the step stool so she can't reach the drinking glasses. We drop something on the floor and ask them to pick it up for us because "your closer". Someone will sing "it's a small world" I partial to the umpa lumpa song. The girls love every minute of it and feel comfortable enough to dish out their own "insults"
