TSU batter (maybe their clean-up batter) who hit a late homer off Phil Humber to lead Texas Southern to a massive upset over Rice in the 1st game for the Owls in the 2004 regional. We were favored at least to return to the College World Series with many of the people responsible for the 2003 national title back in uniform in 2004 (although we had two key injuries at the plate so our hitting wasn't crisp at the end of the season). And pitching wise, while we still had Niemann, Humber and Townsend, we didn't have David Aardsma as the main reliever and that also made a big difference for the pitching staff.

We did battle back through the losers' bracket and almost advanced. One of our young pitchers who hadn't pitched much in the season pitched a great game against A&M to keep us alive (and later transferred to A&M ironically as I recall). But the Aggies beat our depleted pitching staff in the regional final. I may have a detail or two wrong, but that's the gist of it.

While having attended that game, I am afraid I had forgotten the name of the TSU batter that hit the home run. Now I remember. If you guys recall, there was a rain delay after that home run was hit. Once the game was stopped, I walked past the TSU section on the way to the parking lot to hang out with friends. While walking past some of the older TSU fans, several of them started screaming at me that Graham had colluded with the umpires to temporarily stop the game and screw up TSU's momentum. As ridiculous as that was, I think some of them truly believed it was true. Turns out it did not make any difference.
