WAC Preseason MBB Polls & Recognition
Just one opinion from Twitter, but there's a heavy WAC men's basketball influence on here
NMSU at No. 6 is the top squad followed by Grand Canyon at No. 8. Future WAC school Southern Utah at No. 9 with Stephen F Austin at No. 14 and Utah Valley at No. 22.

RE: WAC Preseason MBB Polls & Recognition
I find it interesting the GCU is ranked so high with only one returning starter. Major Madness apparently has a very high opinion of Bryce Drew ability to assemble at roster. At least NMSU is returning 4 starters and is adding a bonified P5 scorer in Teddy Allen. For GCU, its all about "potential"; but outside of Blacksher nothing really quantified.
On a side note, I tried to derive every WAC team's 2021-22 starting line up; but there are so many unknowns (options) for line ups, it became information overload with players coming and going.
Just from my assessment of each roster, here is what "I think" the WAC standing will be come March...
1. New Mexico State
2. Grand Canyon
3. Stephen F. Austin
4. California Baptist
5. Utah Valley
6. Seattle
7. Sam Houston State
8. Abilene Christian
9. Tarleton State
10. Dixie State
11. Lamar
12. UT Rio Grande Valley
13. Chicago State
This is if certain players use the NCAA waver and return to their respective schools. BTW, although I question Major Madness' decision to "pre-season" rank GCU so high, I do believe the level a talent Drew has brought in has given GCU an athletic/size advantage over most WAC schools. I think Ouedraogo, Igiehon, and McGlothan will prove to be handfuls to stop in the paint.

Shocker.
Almost hope y'all do so we don't have to endure more of those 10-pager excuse threads after a loss.
How could you possibly put nmsu ahead of SFA and ACU and expect to be taken seriously? C'mon, Pistol.

SFA lost its 2nd leading scorer Cameron Johnson (6'4 guard; who transferred to Middle Tennessee) and SFA really did not sign anyone who could replace him one-for-one.
And, ACU lost both starting big men but most importantly they lost their head coach. That has impacted their recruiting the coaching change being so close to the signing period.
I know you want to stir up trouble but do some research rather than just being an Irritant; not Itinerant.

Tarleton has the unique distinction of playing both ACU and nmsu last year. ACU was immensely better. They play hard-nosed defense, nmsu's kryptonite.

Our bulletin board should overflow. I can understand why ACU might not be picked to win the WAC but 8th place seriously underestimates the level of returning talent and the quality of coaching.

Tarleton State played NMSU twice on your court during a COVID marred season and you think you know what is NMSU's kryptonite? Keep in mind, NMSU played the second game against Tarleton State without our starting PG, our starting PF seeing limited game action (11 minutes) due to a foot injury and his back up never making the trip to Stephenville; also due to injury. If Jans has time to implement his system without unscheduled stoppages, and the 2021-22 season is played closer to the norms prior to COVID, I have no doubt our Aggies can handle any defensive pressure their WAC peer can throw at them. Prior to last season, NMSU had the top defense in the WAC... Scoring Defense, Defensive FG%, Defensive Rebounding, Rebounding Margin, Assist-to-Turnover Ratio... look it up.

Lol you're one of the posters I respect on this board so I'm gonna shoot you straight. You (and a few other Jans groupies) really gotta get over this habitual excuse phenomena. It's not a good look. At this point I'm convinced that y'all honestly cannot help yourselves! It's ok you got beat. Handily. By Tarleton. Fair & Square.

I'm not saying you guys didn't win fair and square. I'm saying your assessment is skewed leaving out important details; selective memory. NMSU had a subpar 2020-21 season, granted. But you seem to think that is what NMSU is all about; excusing NMSU's prior years under Jans. If Jans gets the Aggie program back on track (pre-covid norms) NMSU will steamroll Tarleton State in the PAC.

Lol can't wait...
Phase 2 of the planned move to FBS.

There are so many moving parts with the new WAC configuration, plus the portal shifting into high gear that it’s difficult to predict what might happen this next year. I’d guess 1-2 are based more on historical success over time, which is what I’m seeing in other sports such as FCS preseason polls that favor North Dakota State and James Madison.
I’d say despite finishing with the highest RPI of any team in the WAC ACU is about where I’d place the Wildcats with two starters gone and the uncertainty of a new coach. I’m optimistic about a higher finish by the send of the season but for now fourth seems fair.

NMSU most likely has the top two players in the entire conference in Teddy Allen (16.5 PPG) and Jabari Rice (13.2 PPG). Then add Tillman (11.6 PPG) who was once the PAC-12 sixth man of the year and Johnny McCants (10 PPG). That's why NMSU is the clear favorite.

Think Allen will still be around by then? 5 schools, yikes!

I think Lamar may surprise several schools in the conference, just last year Lamar defeated both Sam Houston and SFA once despite the low ranking. At least on paper this years squad appears stronger. As for Allen finishing the year at NMSU, I think he will barring an injury. He knows it is his last chance. He is most likely at least good enough to play professionally in Europe and showing he will finish a commitment will be important
