How many teams should be in the playoff?
On the main board I posted that I believe 16 is the best number with the following stipulations.
*All Power 5 division champs: 10 bids
*3 Group of 5 conference champs: 3 bids
*3 Highest ranked for the at-large bids: 3 bids
Additionally,
*Only conference champs host round 1 games
*Quarter finals will be held on/near Jan 1st in Bowls.
*If a team declines a bowl they are ineligible for Playoffs following year.
Goals are,
*Make more regular season games meaningful
*Save the Playoffs and the Bowls
*Make tons of money

What do you all think makes the most sense for the post-season?

It wasn't a choice but I'd say 8 with best 6 champs, not 6 with 5 P5 champs and 1 G5 champ.

24 teams. Scrap the conference playoffs and bowls.

If you had four equal conferences, using semi-final or even 6 teams per conference(similar to NFL division playoffs in the past) to arrive at 4 champs would have been perfect but 5 Power leagues doesn't make it work.

I personally like it at 4 teams.
For the sake of saving college football, 12 is where we are headed and it's probably the right move. More teams equals more regions, if done correctly. It's an inclusive world we are living in, not saying I like it, and that's where the playoff is headed.

I think 12 is the cleanest since we are already at a NY6 and can just essentially take the system we have in place, keep the five P5 champs, highest rated G5 champ, and the rest be at-large selections. Drop the exclusive match-ups (Rose Bowl gets the B10 and P12) and runner-up fill ins that are used for when the P5 champs make the playoffs.

I’m still a 5-1-2 fan. I think the extra weekend of opening round games in December is unnecessary and it’s unlikely we will see a team (other than a top 4 ND) advance from that weekend and win it all. It’s a money grab so I get why they are doing it. It’ll keep a lot more fanbases engaged deeper into the season.

I agree that the 5-1-2 model is best as well, even if I understand why 12 is easy. I just think that 1 G5 team is an issue for the P5. Making one mandatory may be unacceptable to the P5, especially if the team is ranked outside of the top 12 or so. But putting a threshold on having a G5 team be within the top whatever will create a lot of outrage if one finishes just outside the limit. More conspiracy calls to hold down the G5.

RE: How many teams should be in the playoff?
bowl games are a horrible product to watch. They mean nothing and are too many times played too long after the season. Scrap the bowl games and do what the FCS does. 24 playoff teams is not too many, every other sport has playoff participation percentages in line with this. 8 byes the first week and teams ranked 9 through 24 are much better games and mean more than ANY bowl game you have played right now. Post season exhibition games are the worst idea ever and a waste of time to watch.

There is no reason with 24 teams to have conference championship games either. If you want to find a system that utilizes conference champions with NO other teams that's great for your playoff but with a P5 your really can't. If 72 teams broke away and formed 4 leagues, I would be all for 6 teams in each league getting a conference playoff birth to determine the 4 champions but we don't have that.
