A new coach may make a splash the first couple of years (as Rock did), but the lack of program investment would catch up to him quickly (as it did Rock). We need to decide what kind of program we want before worrying about a new coach. Of course, that’s just my opinion.
I keep seeing this... Do we need all new aluminum bats or something? Are our players having to share fielder's gloves? I mean... if I'm not mistaken, and I rarely am, FedEx just renovated the stadium less than a decade ago, not that more than 30 people would even know it.
Unless.... the kind of "investment" you and others are talking about is cash in a shoebox. If that's what holding us back, then I get it.
No, I didn’t mean bats and balls. Do you think the athletic department is committed to becoming a top program in the AAC? Do you think they’re investing the time and effort to make that happen? I don’t and I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t be. Either way, the bolded statement above is a problem. Ask the next guy you see on the street if he’s ever been to a Memphis Tigers baseball game. He probably won’t know what the hell you’re talking about.
The first time I called to rent the left field deck, I had to explain to them that this (renting the deck) was allowed. They then wanted to know how I knew about it (another way of saying “prove it”). I told them they could find the offer on their website. I decided to check out the deck beforehand and found a gaping hole in the floor at the top of the stairs. They weren’t even going to repair it until I said “I just wanted to make sure you were aware in the event someone were to break a leg or something.”
So, yeah. Invest a give a damn or two.
Keeping a losing coach is definitely not a commitment
No it’s not, but he graduates players and his program doesn’t lose money. They probably love him. With more and more schools dropping baseball to cut costs, at least we still have a team.
What does "his program does not lose money" mean?
the program keeps up with the money it is allocated and they don't misplace it?
there is NO WAY the baseball team does not lose money if you are using the old standard of the expenses are lower than the revenues generated by the baseball team
Reminds me of a scene in an old W.C. Fields movie:
“Was I in here last night and did I spend a $20 bill?
Oh, thank goodness... I thought I'd lost it.”

I’d give you an answer if I could but I don’t remember wtf I was trying to say. .
RE: Memphis Tigers Baseball Got Two Transfers Today
We just need to find some guys who can locate their pitches because Memphis’ staff walked way too many batters last year.
Velo means zero if there is no control. Good college hitters hit grooved 97 mph fastballs…. Give me a kid who can change speeds & has command of 2 or 3 pitches. I enjoyed watching Doug Nikhazy pitch this season more than any other kid in college baseball and his fastball stayed in the 88-91 mph range, but he could locate that 10-4 curveball & painted both corners with a running fastball.
RE: Memphis Tigers Baseball Got Two Transfers Today
I'm watching a Memphis area kid (Walls, MS) starting on the mound for Mississippi State in the CWS against Texas. The announcer said nobody offered him out of high school. So he went the JC route and then ended up with the Bulldogs. I would shame the Memphis staff for missing on a guy in their own back yard but I guess several programs did the same. As a matter of fact their is a lot of DeSoto county kids on that team. Hard to compete against SEC programs man.
RE: Memphis Tigers Baseball Got Two Transfers Today
There’s not a ton of local talent in the area yet I have no idea why they offer many of the local kids they do… it’s almost as if they have no relationship with the handful of travel ball programs in the area. It also may be why the team batting average last year was .228 and the team ERA was over 7.00.

Makes sense- I know a few boosters who favor Basketball and a few that favor Football but I have never met one that favors Baseball-
In fact when I have been lucky enough to talk to one of our big supporters they have never ever mentioned baseball - good or bad

In all honesty, Roc needs to completely reset this roster. There are juco kids he can back with, but the team he currently has cannot win on this level.
And looking at the Brockhouse’s stats, they are losing a guy with a 6.0+ ERA who walked more than he struck out… adios.

Surprised the baseball coach has a buyout.
As I stated earlier, but I guess needs clarification for some...it's not necessarily a "buyout" in the sense you are thinking, but could be that he has a contract for the next few years, that we'd have to pay if he is fired. That would be a logical assumption.

RE: Memphis Tigers Baseball Got Two Transfers Today
I saw an updated list of coaches in the area who will be attending this player showcase in Ridgeland, MS. The East Coast Sox organization is the pre-eminent program in this part of the country with a list of alumni that reads like a who’s who in Deep South baseball. Coaches from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tulane, Southern Miss, etc… will all be on hand. Oddly enough, a school from just 3 short hours up the road and one void of talent is not on the list. One of the founders of this organization lives in Memphis and should be a valuable resource to the Memphis staff, yet for some bizarre reason, there appears to be no relationship. Why in the hell is Roc still here?
