The 1996 UT game was in November (second weekend, I think). What fair was going on then? The Mid South Fair was usually in September, I think.

Now that was impossible parking

But my worse experience was an nfl exhibition game with
LA and somebody playing

There was gridlock for 2 miles around the stadium

I was too drunk to remember how I got there.

Back then I parked in the Highland Hundred Lot between MSC and the LB. I went to the fair before the game and rode my favorite ride: THE BEER TENT! Now that we can buy a beer at the game I no longer wish the Fair was in town.

We parked at Toby in those days

The Liberty Bowl honored Peyton this year. I'm wondering...why? Isn't he 0-1 in the stadium, and 0-0 in the Liberty Bowl game? OHHH! Citizen of the year. Riiigght.
Perfect example of the bowls/P5 ingratiation that has held back the sport for fans, but lined each others pockets.

1-1 in the stadium actually. Beat Mississippi there 41-3 five weeks before losing to us.

Better organization and expansion at Tobey will be welcomed - but don't mess up a good deal!
Shuttles from campus make sense.
Then we will be fine.

Shuttles from the airport are stoopid. Needs to be closer to residential areas - like shuttles from Wolfchase and FXWHQ.
Need to tear down the MSC and make more parking (pains me to say it).
I also don't mind a walk from north or west.

One statement does concern me. McGowen said,
"We’re talking about six or seven days out of the year that we need to accommodate a large number of cars parking."
It sounds fine to say "6-7 days a year". But those are critical days for the entire area. It's why LBMS exists. Without those 6-7 days, there is no Liberty Park.

Tear down MSC---those are fightin words LOL

bring back wrasslin'

We have a FIXED/FAKE rasslin team---that plays in the same arena as our mighty TIGERS

Also when Tim McCarver Stadium, cattle barns, pig barns, etc. we’re still standing? Or when the Children’s Museum was the National Guard Armory, the lots between it and the LB were a motor pool with tanks parked there?

Tobey Field, and then made the walk

That’s what I did when I was young(er)

Take a couple puffs and start out walking
And magically I was at the stadium

Now I am in the gold lot
Wife makes me go to the h100 tent and
Drink beer with the old farts

Haha….I think we all made that walk. You also got to witness some craziness.

You guys must keep up with him/$EC more than I do, so I will take your word for it.

I recall UTK fans were in angst whether Peyton would return for his senior season. This, after losing to us his junior year. I always told them that he would come back, once he looked at the schedule and saw he didn't have to play Memphis.

Don't worry they'll gain some back when they demolish the Coliseum and turn it back into parking spaces

I remember back when everyone had their graduation ceremonies there.
I walked across the stage there myself when I graduated from Central back in 1986.
I'm one of the folks who think it should be saved, but I can understand why some may want it gone, as fixing all the problems it has would be costly.

Oh yeah I get it, I was just being snarky saying they could get the spots back if they tore it down. I'm turning 50 this year and have been a lifelong Memphian so I understand the nostalgia behind it. I love the architecture and the history.
I also wish we still had: LIberty Land, Zippin Pippin, The Hungry Fisherman, Bill and Jim's (My grandmother worked there), Red Square (I was in college when this place was open--oh what fun), Adventure River, etc.
I am all for keeping the Coliseum in some form if possible, but honestly I just don't see where it fits in. Its size and the condition it's in definitely hinder it from any type of event location for concerts or shows, not to mention the competition from many other local or nearby venues.

The Coliseum has to go. It has no purpose other than taking up space. I loved going to games there in the late 70’s and early 80’s but just because there are wonderful memories from that building don’t mean it has a purpose now. The money required to bring it back to usefulness would be a black hole. Tear it down now. It is an eyesore.
