WAC FBS - Later rather than sooner
Soooo not sick and tired of the complete sense being spewed on the "WAC expansion/FCS" thread. Dead subject. Y'all really need to come to grips with the fact that the WAC FBS train is not even close to being in motion. Never, will WAC outliers be booted and replaced with football-playing, FBS-minded schools. Why? Because the non-football schools say so, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Chronically homeless NMSU will still be the primary beneficiary, so please, for once, stop all your whining and complaining and start applauding!

I repeat:

NEW DIVISION WITH A BRIGHT FUTURE IN 15 YEARS!

INDEPENDENT, FOR NOW: Tarleton State University made the jump to NCAA Division I and the Western Athletic Conference last July and is currently in its first year of a four-year transition period. The WAC stopped sponsoring football back in 2012, making Tarleton an independent football program for the spring 2021 season. However, the WAC has announced an expansion that will bring four football-playing schools into the WAC as early as July 1, 2021 – Lamar, Abilene Christian, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin. This move will bring football back to the Western Athletic Conference at the FCS Level.

EYES ON FBS: With the revival of the WAC at the FCS level, the question remains of – will the WAC return to its former FBS glory days? The answer is simple: that's the plan. In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Tarleton President Dr. James Hurley said, "Our goal going into this is to immediately start laying out a plan among the presidents and athletic directors to develop a strategic plan to become an FBS conference. That work will start Day 1. We understand that realistically this is going to be at least a five-year process."

COMMON SENSE ON FCS: Just take a look at Southern Utah’s football stadium. Anyone with half a brain can see that it is not even close to being a FBS stadium. In a recent interview, college football fan Jack Mehoff said, “That stadium could have been a FBS stadium in the 1930s. It’s been a Division 2 facility, you know, like Tarleton State has been up until last year.” Mehoff also added, “Why would they leave the stable Big Sky to be left a short time later by the Texas schools? You would have to be a real paint huffing moron to believe that’s the case.”

RE: WAC FBS - Later rather than sooner
Finally someone started a spin off thread from the WAC expansion thread. Except you left out how Tarleton has already started a committee to decide how respond to all the Big 12 and SEC invites that should be flooding in anytime now.

Its going to be within 5 years. They are the new TCU, haven't you heard?

Of course, 5 years is a moving target. It has gone from 5 year in 2019, to 5 years in 2020, to at least 5 years in 2021. By next year it ought to be down to 5 years.

To listen to the nmsu AD perk up and get all giddy when asked about the WAC going FBS...and we're talking about a man who had just returned from the meetings in Denver...one would have to be a bumbling idiot to not believe this thing is in motion.
[/quote]

And right on que: the Negative Nancy Sewing Circle Society of Bumbling Idiots just started an anti-FBS thead..lol

Your bumbling idiot quote, is your opinion only. Can you please post an interview from an AD that was sad and distraught when returning from conference meetings? Isn’t the AD’s job to give hope to fans? Who would want to support an AD that spoke only the truth and wasn’t hopeful? Do you think anyone would like Moccia if he constantly said, “No FBS conference wants NMSU. Our football team sucks, what do you want me to do about it?”

But the Tarleton prez says so... Of course, he is the guy claiming to have helped "reestablish" WAC FCS football on his Bio page, so you know he's a smart one.

Exactly. The Tarleton prez, who was in Division 2 last year, is leading the charge to FBS. He might say that, he might say it to delusional yahoos, but it doesn’t mean it’s true. Anyone can say they are doing something, especially without specifying a month or year.

“I’m working on becoming a millionaire”
“I will have my own business one day”
“I am working on my diet”
“My 401k is doing great”

Those are all just blanket statements that people will say and they don’t mean anything. Same with “working towards FBS”. Could be a 20 year plan, means nothing.

I would like to declare right now that as being a part of this message board I am helping to establish the WAC as the mini-Big 12.

Well, Seattle is becoming an extreme outlier like West Virginia is to the Big 12. You got a nice head start.

I want to play too! Tarleton can play the roll of TCU, SUU can play Utah, and Dixie can play BYU (in mini-Big 12 fantasy land, Utah and BYU join the Big12), SHSU can be Texas, SFA can pretend they are A&M, and Abilene can imagine they are Baylor.

We can all pretend we're practically FBS.

Well, except New Mexico State. We are FBS.

Speaking of FBS, wanted to provide some neat things about NMSU's recent FBS tenure.

NMSU has won 5+ games just once in the last 16 years (2017 - 7 win season)
NMSU is averaging 2.69 wins a year over the last 16 years (not including 2020)

Is the humiliating loss to d2-transition team Tarleton included in these numbers?

I am just providing facts, Oscar.

The loss to Division II transitioning Tarleton State is not included in the average because it would not of been fair to list a 1-1 record midst everything as it would have been unfair to the 2.69 wins a year record over the last decade & a half.

And what of their bowl record during this time? I imagine they have dominated weaker foes in the occasional kudzu bowl?

After their time in the Border Intercollegiate Athletic Association which concluded in 1961, they have a single postseason appearance. The 2017 Arizona Bowl, a 26-20 win over Utah State.

This is the thing, NMSU fans know we’re terrible at football. We never try to hide that fact or pretend we’re something we’re not. Pointing out NMSUs deficiencies in FB does not cancel out the delusional attitude of Tarleton becoming the pillar of Texas athletics because they’re switching conferences. If switching conferences automatically granted you God status NMSU would be raining down lighting bolts on everyone right now.

Tarleton does have one thing that NMSU does not.

A stable football situation.

And that includes playing four other schools inside their own state as a conference game. They also have significantly more upside too as far as what they can accomplish (reasonable access to the postseason, not playing a schedule chalk full of money games, etc.) in turn.

Yes and NMSU is in a better position than Duke because we’ve had an easier path to the NCAA tournament. Oh ok lol

So when you make the jump to FBS, which apparently is happening faster than the ink drying on your WAC contract, you’re telling me Tarleton will never play money games? Or do you expect your amazing success as a DII powerhouse to automatically transition to FBS?
