SEC Stock Market 2021
JRSec, I found this post on the ACC board, and wondered how we could modify it for the SEC:

You are given a fixed amount to invest and you must try to achieve the highest return in 2021 with that portfolio. We are only using conference games here, so no penalty for scheduling tough or reward for scheduling easy out of conference.

Code:
TEAM            WINS    LOSSES
Clemson         9       1
Miami (FL)      7       2
N. Carolina     7       3
NC State        7       3
Boston College  5       5
Pittsburgh      5       5
Virginia Tech   5       5
Virginia        4       5
Wake Forest     3       4
Georgia Tech    3       6
Louisville      3       7
Florida State   2       6
Duke            1       9
Syracuse        1       9

The purchase price is the win total above from last season. So to buy a share of NC State would cost $7. You have $100 total to invest. Your goal is to accumulate the most wins possible in that $100.

If you do decide to play this, I would suggest you limit the number of dollars you can invest in any one team. Otherwise you might have everyone putting all (or most) of their money on one team, Alabama for example.
To make it even more interesting, you might also choose to limit the investment in the top 7 teams you select to no more than a total of $50 or $75 (or another specific amount)! That could require you to "rank" virtually every team in the conference in some way!

RE: SEC Stock Market 2021
I like it, ICTHawk!! No one can have more than $65 in the top 7 teams, unless JR wishes to change that. If so, the new amount will be the one JR specifies.

Code:
SEC in-conference W/L

Alabama 11-0
Georgia 7-2
Texas A&M 10-1
Florida 8-3
LSU 5-5
Auburn 6-4
Ole Miss 4-5
Missouri 5-5
Mississippi State 3-7
Kentucky 4-6
Tennessee 3-7
Arkansas 3-7
South Carolina 2-8
Vandy 0-10

Basically, the price for each SEC stock is the number of in-conference wins from last year. Similarly, any SEC stock $$ you make will be from in+conference wins, not non-conference wins..

For example, Kentucky stock is $4 per share. If Kentucky gets 8 wins in the SEC, you get $32 for one share

In addition, you can only put $50 in any particular team (since Vandy stock is basically free, I'm limiting it to 50 shares per poster), so diversity is good!!

So it's not if KY wins 8 you double (getting 8 back for 4), but it's $4 per win?

Is the goal then the most value for your money? Or the most total money?

Soobakh, great point!! The goal is most value for your money. I think I like your way better, although originally I was going to do it $ per win. Your way sounds more true to real life, than what I originally thought.

Thanks. That also solves the Vandy problem of $0 x 8 still equalling 0.

An interesting game.

Alabama won 11 (?) in-conference games last season, which is not possible this season. Same with Texas A&M at 10. Florida at 8 and Georgia at 7 are also tough picks, not great value. Auburn at 6 means they would have to beat everyone but Alabama and Texas A&M. They get Georgia this year, so that's a a tough pick as well.

For that reason lets go with:
25 of Vandy (the "free picks", if they win even 1 game, that's $25 dollars back)
20 of Arkansas (at $3 dollars that means I've spent $60)
5 of TN (at $3 dollars means I'm paying 15 for TN, for a total of $75)
5 for Miss St (at $3 dollars that means I'm paying 15, for a total of $90)
3 of South Carolina (at $2 dollars thats 6, for a total of $96),
1 of Ole Miss (at 4 dollars thats 4, for a total of $100).

In other words, I think Arkansas takes a step forward, i'm a TN fan who has a little bit of hope, and want to take a flier on the other schools. If we could "short" schools, I would obviously "short" the above list (Alabama, A&M, Florida, Georgia, and Auburn). I might consider shorting South Carolina, and LSU would probably go on that list too.

What if I want to short sell someone? Sell them now and rebuy at the end of the season.

RE: SEC Stock Market 2021
Betting happens. Basically it is a pre-season methodology. Schools and conferences better be hands-off buying into such. What could go wrong? Start with a whole new avenue of corruption.

ChrisLords, if you prefer, I will ban short sells. I really have no opinion one way or another on that. I just thought you wanted short sells.

I did want to short sell Florida but then I saw Shane Beamers team at $2 and decided to just invest in him.

So the rules are $100, no more than $65 in the top 7 teams in the conference and no more than 50 shares.

I'll buy 50 shares of South Carolina for $2 each since they are not in the top 7.
