Hmmm - https://pocketpath.com/ - something about promoting this on his twitter account feels off to me. Benefit of the doubt at this point. Not used to seeing our coaches or couches do this.

Bostick has been working hand and hand with these companies for years. I wouldn't be surprised if Pocketpath and the couple other companies/products he mentioned in last week's tweet are donating the products to Rice.

Am I understanding this right? It's a tube that fits to your stomach by velcro to encourage consistency in taking the ball out of the glove? This is a lot lower tech than that apparently ineffective QB VR trainer we bought.

The word is going to be out about Bostick if the pitching staff is greatly improved.
Hope we will be able to keep him for at least 2 or 3 yrs. (08-24-2021 03:37 PM)waltgreenberg Wrote: (08-24-2021 03:34 PM)ausowl Wrote: (08-24-2021 01:27 PM)Musicowl1965 Wrote: (08-23-2021 04:12 PM)waltgreenberg Wrote: More from our new pitching coach...

Not questioning his resume. Young guy, new role as a representative of RU v. Lone Star travel ball, entrepreneur.

This needs to be a concern as I think he will be a hot coaching candidate in the coming years. He may have been "under the radar" to many on this board but to those of us who follow the summer ball circuit, analytics and tools for development this was a fantastic hire. I believe he will be making a huge impact at Rice in the next 2-3 years with significant improvement this coming season. Just my opinion of course. Full disclosure...I am in no way related to Bostick!!! (lol)
Regarding the pocket path trainer I see no issue here, he still wants to spread his knowledge to the younger players which is a great thing IMO.

RE: Cruz Jr Hired as Next Coach
If Cruz and Bostick are successful at returning Rice to a national power in baseball over the next 2-3 years, hopefully Bostick follows the path of someone like Saarloos and sticks around a bit longer than some might initially predict.
And honestly, staying at Rice 2-3 years to get a step up might be less rewarding and riskier than staying at Rice 4-6 years to get a huge step up. 2-3 really good years at Rice might give him an opportunity to be head coach at UH or Sam Houston or something similar. 4-6 really good years could get him a lot further.
Of course, all this excitement has me counting chickens for the baseball team!

Let's not count our chickens too quickly. As optimistic as I am about both Bostick and Cruz, they're not miracle workers, and it's going to take a couple years to infuse the roster with the talent capable of being a Top 25 - 35 quality program. The pitching staff is pretty depleted. Outside of the two transfers (Chandler, Burbank) and Deskins, there is not a whole lot to work with (and I'm hearing that Garibay is going to be asked to focus exclusively on being a position player, where his potential is the highest). Yes, I think the other pitchers on our staff will improve, but save for Brogdon (who was simply average or slightly above average), the rest of the returning staff is coming from a pretty low, sub-par level.

I agree with Walt. I am more excited about the future of Rice baseball than I have been in several years, but this was not a good, or even mediocre, team in 2020 or 2021. Those were bad teams, and it will take a couple of years.

Yeah, I have to believe that Bostick's biggest immediate impact will be on recruitment of pitchers...

??? His resume is DEVELOPING pitchers-- both from a mechanics standpoint and mentally. As I said, I'm not expecting miracles this coming season, but I do expect to see a significant improvement in our pitching stats.

If the goose eggs are on the opponent's line on the scoreboard, I hope they do.
Sounds great but don’t count your goose eggs before they… roost?

Agree Walt as I expect improvement as well not miracles however, improvement might result in a good run in the Conference tournament with an NCAA regional exceeding, at least for this year, expectations. Recruitment will be where I think this staff will shine in the coming years.

I think the point is that if his development skills translate, that will very quickly become a huge recruiting tool. At that point, he would be very much in demand and I would hope that we can keep him.
