One of the things he led in with, probably because he likely gets a lot of questions about it, is all the products that are advertised and purchased by baseball teams to improve their performance. He said none of them help much. 'Had to take the man's word for it. Seven straight years of more than 40 wins. I hesitate to say this but really, if they played in Big 12 or SEC, I am not sure they would have that distinction. But they did okay in the TCU regional last year, so there's that....and they've been to post season a lot lately.

I have a lot of respect for Heefner, but his comment probably reflects the fact that DBU doesn't have the resources for some of the advanced tech/analytical tools and the staffing to utilize them correctly.

Sounds like the old-school scouts that were loathe to embrace analytics.

I wouldn't be able to disagree with your thought. Small universities....as we well know at Rice, usually are very much resource constrained. I hope that DBU, my kids' alma mater, continues to have success with their baseball program. They don't have a football program.....resources, again. I find myself wishing they had a decent engineering department and program. Not that my kids would have taken that road, but there might have been a chance.

Heefner is a exceptional man and a pretty darn good baseball coach. Don't think for a minute though that he wouldn't at least investigate the new products. Recruiting is still the name of the game and I believe that if he thought, as I do, that it would improve recruiting if they implemented the new tools (Rapsodo, Trackman, Pulse, Motion Capture, Edgertronic cams etc.) he would quickly get on board. I agree that it is likely more of a resource issue vs a desire issue. IMO.

I think for talks to a group of men at a church he probably wanted to put those orentialmquestions aside to focus on his intended topic.

This was the right call. His topic was likely much more important to him and the congregation than what the best spin rate is for a FB.
