2021-22 baseball off season
Now that all the teams are eliminated from post season here's some of the many topics that have to be decided over the next 6 months by the CUSA office:

- continue with 4 game series or revert back to 3 game series
- continue with playing travel partner twice regardless of 3 or 4 game series
- if we revert to 10 weekends of CUSA series do we keep the East/West standings or go back to single division

I don't know. But the schedule this year accidently did what the pods were supposed to do for us in basketball, with USM/LT and ODU/Charlotte both playing 8 games against each other. It really boosted each schools resume's.

Maybe this is a crazy idea but I think it’d be great to play 4 4-game series and 4 3-game series. Gives you 28 conference games, more non-conference flexibility, but also reduces travel costs.

While you are here talking baseball, how about giving Austin Knight some votes. He is a C-USA's only Golden Spikes Award nominee and could use our help. You can click on the vote button, and then continue to click up to 25 times per day. Thanks!

Back to 3 game weekends in C-USA. Thank goodness. Those were brutal and really put us at a disadvantage in our mid-week games vs schools that were only playing 3 game weekends.

I really liked the divisional format though. You can feel some rivalries starting to build.

The first step to making sure we can host regionals in the future is happening.

Hmmm. Sounds like somebody went back home after spending almost 2 weeks in Ruston and said, "Hey, why can't we have that too?" LOL!

That and having to "host" a regional hundreds of miles away from their fans.

Maybe one day the conference will throw the East a bone one of these days. I guess 2024 is the next chance to bid on the C-USA Tourney. Next year its back at USM, then Rice in 2023. Tentatively scheduled to be hosted by Marshall in 2024 if they can ever get their stadium built.

Our new AD and Coach sound like they will definitely want to put our bid in. The previous admin would not.

The CUSA Tournament has GOT to come back to Ruston. It was too much fun. Too perfect.

It definitely opened some eyes to the idea of “why not us?” But the lack of hosting the regional, when those opportunities are hard to come by was a great wake up call to our program and donors. Honestly, I’m glad we didn’t find out a way to host at Harbor Park, we wouldn’t have the momentum we have now for a new park if we did.

Long run, yes, but I do wish Harbor Park had been available, since there'd a good chance if it was then we'd be hosting the Flying Bibles of Dallas Baptist there this weekend for a trip to the CWS

RE: 2021-22 baseball off season
Good news for USM.....Gabe Montenegro (the only non freshman or sophomore in our batting order from this season) posted on his Instagram account that he was returning for his senior season. He tied for th team lead in batting average at .345 and has been our leadoff hitter the past 3 seasons so definitely a boost. As well, his brother has committed to USM for next season as a catcher/infielder which probably played into his decision to come back for his final season.

Lane Burroughs signs an extension with La Tech that extends him through the 2025-26 season.

And don’t blame them on the last paragraph of the press release. Strike while the iron is hot

Tech baseball season ticket holders and LTAC donors should be on the lookout today for emails detailing how to renew season tickets for the 2022 season.

RE: 2021-22 baseball off season
UAB has hired a new coach. Didn't realize their coach from last year was an interim all season.

https://uabsports.com/news/2021/6/23/ing...coach.aspx

Dunn joins the Blazers after a very successful coaching stint at the helm of the Samford University program for the past 17 seasons. This past season, the Bulldogs made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

Under Dunn's guidance, the Bulldogs have posted seven-straight 30+ win seasons, including 13 of the last 15 full seasons overall.

On paper, it’s probably the best hire we could have made. Everybody seems to be hopeful that facility upgrades went along with this hire.

Is the condition of your stadium why ODU did not bid? Louisiana hosted a Regional and Super Regional in a stadium that was WAY dumpier than ODU's. Still worked out ok for us.
Good luck moving forward.
