RE: 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Congrats to her on saving the best for last at Rice for Fokam. Great series - I think that puts her as the #5 American in 2021? First podium finish for an Owl since Krystal Robinson in the discus.

Three Owls at the NCAA's on the women's side and all three score points. You can't do better than that. Now it's just a matter of whether 13 points will keep us in the top 25?

Rice should finish 22nd - we're now 20th, but since Kentucky and South Carolina have 4 x 400 relay teams, they'll pass us.

If Heymach of Stanford (and Lamar High School) gets 4th or better, the Cardinal will pass us.

6th for Heymach. Rice stays ahead of Stanford. Sorry (not sorry) JK.

Correction: there are 9 teams in the 4 x 400. Rice has 13, South Carolina and Kentucky have 12 each. Obviously, if one gets 9th (zero points), Rice stays ahead. If one gets 8th, then Rice will tie for 21st.

Am I being a bad sport in hoping they'll finish 8th and 9th?

South Carolina was 6th and Kentucky 8th. Rice looks to finish 21st, pending the 5,000 meters protest.

The only non-P5 schools to finish ahead of Rice: North Carolina A&T and Air Force.

One final note - primarily for Bob Reinhold - Houston (a/k/a "Speed City") finished in 58th place with 2 points.

Correct

1. Keturah Orji 14.92
2. Jasmine Moore 14.39
3. Tori Franklin 14.10
4. Lynnika Pitts 14.07
5. Michelle Fokam 14.04

Those top 3 are the only Americans who have hit 14.32 (Olympic Games auto standard). If they show up at Eugene next Friday (prelims), they will be the triple jump team - unless someone else jumps 14.32 and finishes ahead of one of them.

14.32 = 46' 11¾

No, that’s not being a bad sport. That’s simply hoping for the best result for your team.

Being a bad sport would be hoping that the South Carolina and Kentucky runners collide into each other in a massive pileup on the relay exchange injuring both and resulting in DNF for both and zero points.

But I know you weren’t hoping that!!!
