The key (obviously) for Michelle today is to get a solid jump early to make the cut (top 9) to get to finals for 3 additional attempts. It just takes one - and 6 attempts double the odds.

It won't be easy, since Michelle enters the competition at #12 on the NCAA list (all 11 ahead of her also made it to Eugene).

14 meters is massive. The Olympic standard is 14.32 (I think that might have to be legal?). I think she would be in the all-time top 15 on the men's list now too at Rice. That's to qualify to compete in the Olympics. She's already qualified for the Olympic Trials.

Looks like she'll be 2nd heading into the final 3 jumps (behind the Texas Tech jumper who went 14.19 meters in the third round). It appears the jumpers currently in 3rd, 4th and 7th have season bests further than Fokam, but the Florida State jumper hasn't been close to the board today (she's the one currently in 7th).

Going to finals (3 more jumps)

2. Fokam, Rice 14.04 (46' 0¾")
3. Moore, Georgia 13.96 (45' 9¾")
4. Acquah, Texas A&M 13.70 (44' 11½")

No change in order after the 4th round. Michelle with 13.78 (45' 2½") on that last jump.

Lasmane of Florida State moves up to 4th with 13.91 meters (45' 7¾").

Acquah of Texas A&M back into 4th with 13.95 (45' 9¼").

Amazing series for Fokam - best 3 legal jumps of her life. I still think she has to worry about the three jumpers right behind her in the final round, but I doubt any one else can pass her. And she can still win this if she puts together the jump of her life as her final collegiate jump.

Michelle with another great jump - 13.90 (45' 7¼"). Best series of her life.

I think only Moore and Acquah can pass her.
