Hammer throws are often held outside the stadium. The new version of Hayward looks nothing like the old stadium.

The 2nd and 3rd ranked throwers entering the competition didn't make the finals. TSS is in 5th but will probably need a PR to make the podium. Again it's a fight for second. No one is going to catch Rogers, who is headed to the Olympics later this summer for Canada.

It's Hayward Field.

That was my guess, too, though I thought hammer was supposed to be able to be done entirely within Hayward Field. I'm not watching, so can't really say. I guess there are timing conflicts, when getting so many events done, that they went back outside for prelims?

They did a lot to update the Field and add to it (like the tower and museum).

It is entirely possible to have the hammer inside Hayward in the new configuration. There is a ring just in front of the javelin runway. They are just leery of having it inside during the NCAA meet because of the other events going on.

Foul on her 3rd attempt. Two throwers passed her in that round, so she'll be in 5th going to finals for 3 additional attempts. She will be throwing 5th in each of the remaining rounds.

Likely about 15 minutes before we resume.

No improvements for any thrower in round 4. Moving to round 5.

Taiwo of Mississippi has her 2nd lifetime best of the competition - moves into 5th.

Tara in 6th going into the final round. 6 of the 9 finalists have had season and/or lifetime bests. Tara needs one of those.

Taiwo with her 3rd lifetime best (71.27) to move into 2nd.

Tara with 68.78 (226' 8") to finish 4th!

Congrats to Tara. I think (?) that's Rice's first first-team all-American in outdoor track and field since Daisy Ding (8th in TJ in 2015). And the highest finish by an Owl outdoors since Krystal Robinson was 3rd in the discus in 2006?

Rice currently in 4th in the NCAA team standings (after 1 event).

Tara had the same best throw as Llano, but gets 4th place BY ONE CENTIMETER because her 2nd best was 67.99, to 67.98 for Llano.
