Agreed...

After a certain point age is just a number.

But we would essentially lose a recruiter because I don't see Brown doing that grind. I do think he still has passion for coaching\teaching though.

Penny has recruited well without a full staff. Last year and this year. Penny is actively involved in the grind. Not all head coaches are. Larry, besides having a great mind for BB, would draw attention like a trophy wife. Wait to announce him with hopes of clearing the books on the NCAA then pull the trigger.

I can't always keep up with all of my other life duties ... but this sounds like it's real not just a "rumor." Now it's just a matter of making it happen. Is the AD on board or not anyone know?

For how much money? last I heard the school was laying off employees, not hiring premium assistant coaches.

Big dif between 70 (Saban) and 80 (Brown). Take it from someone who’s somewhere north of Mr. Sagan’s age, but south of Brown’s. But i’d support the hire.

I'm hearing that it will be Penny and 3 grad assistants recruiting on Zoom conferences.

The internet says Brown is worth 70 million dollars. I might be wrong but I doubt he's going to make money the issue --- at this point. Might be something else like limits on activities but I'd be surprised if it's money - shocked even -- it wouldn't make any sense.

Yeah...He is doing this because he loves it and it good at it.

Nice situation to be in.

And as far as people worrying about issues with the NCAA I doubt it will matter once players are able to profit off of their likeness...Cheating will essentially not exist any longer.

With such a long and successful career, Brown has developed an impressive coaching tree. Among those that have served on Brown's staffs are John Calipari, Gregg Popovich, Bill Self and Mark Turgeon

How impressive for Penny that Larry Brown will be a part of his coaching tree...not quite but it sounds good.

One thing it definitely does is nullify the negative recruiting tactic that the Memphis staff cannot coach.

So that also would make Cal part of the Penny coaching tree, right?

No. Larry tree has fully matured and Penny's just a twig.

Oh, I think it will still exist, but proving and punishing may get a little more dicey. Unless it's the U of M of course - then it will be guilty by default with a long and painful wait for the punishment....

Yeah, from Jason and John yesterday they said that "the powers that be" are good with the Larry Brown hire, they've done their due diligence, but not to expect an announcement anytime soon since there's no need to bring Terry Brown on staff until later. Called the process "hurry up and wait."
