RE: 2021-22 Season
Good stuff, but, right now, I'm just hoping BU gets a decent fan turnout on Tuesday night.
Up at the Knights' MAC-tion in Oxford the other night, Miami only drew a crowd of 1,200+ (and that was likely their second largest home crowd of the season).

I don't like making negative remarks, but the 4th thing we've learned is that a team that in essence plays a 4-guard offense and is pretty lousy at the 3 point line is likely to have some trouble winning games.

Out of 358 men's DI basketball teams BU is 308 in three point shooting pct. But let me close with something positive here. If a team plays tenacious defense, has outstanding conditioning and discipline on offense and defense and plays in a conference that doesn't have too many dominating big men, it might still do well in conference play.

100% agree. The reason we looked good against Miami was because the 3point shooting was good. I really don't think LMU had a lot more talent than Miami. If Pfriem could produce consistently good 3 point shooting, this would be a different team.
I thought the 3 point shooting was questionable from day one with this team, which is why I thought Johnson would be getting some significant playing time. That is obviously not going to happen. I suspect there are reasons for the red shirt that I know nothing about. It does seem like that almost all the best 4 year players over the course of Scotty's tenure have been significant contributors as first year players. B. Bach being a notable exception.

RE: 2021-22 Season
I just checked the Bellarmine Athletics website and it says the Bellarmine - Bradley game scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled. Whadda ya know, looks like they could have scheduled a UK game after all! Assuming we could have foreseen the future.

Yeah, the craziness continues. Apparently the 'Rona issue is on the Bradley side.
Wonder if Bellarmine will try to squeeze in another game; I imagine it'd be challenging to find a potential opponent who is both under the max number of allowed games and ready-and-willing to play one more.

I also thought that Johnson would be a big lift to our perimeter shooting this year. His absence stems from surgery he had in early Nov. Although Scotty hinted that he may redshirt on a recent radio broadcast , it’s not a 100% sure thing that he will redshirt, as he has started practicing and will be making the road trips in January with the team.
Injuries have really impacted our rotation and chemistry this season with 2 starters out (Thelan and Claycomb) Ethan was showing signs of a return to last year’s form before coming down with mono. I understand that Thelan may be ready by next week’s conference opener.

Apparently, this time, the "COVID issues" are on BU's side. Ugh.

RE: 2021-22 Season
Short-handed BU pulls out a victory despite Dylan's worst game ever. I know there are a couple of people posting on this board who have some better info than I do on the injury report. I listened to Davenport's post game interview on the ride home from Freedom Hall but I didn't listen to the pre-game report. I know Younker was wearing a boot on his leg last game so I know he was injured and Bash was dressed but didn't play so I don't know about his injury but Scotty mentioned he would be returning to action soon. It seems Thelen and Claycomb are out of the picture for a long time. Nick has a nagging groin injury I believe (is that correct?) and Claycomb has lost a ton of weight. This board is the first place I heard about Johnson's surgery. Am I missing information on these injuries? DeVault isn't injured, I think, but looks like he is relegated to the bench as long as Hopf is playing well and not in foul trouble.

Bgrad
Talking to one of the parents of a player last night, Ethan was set to come back, overcoming mono, but now got COVID. In the press conference after the game (not the radio show) Scotty said Ethan will resume activities today Sunday and could play Tuesday. Same with Bash.
Nick was initially struggling with a back injury. Once he got over that he pulled a groin in the walk thru before the Miami Oh game.

A really nice crowd of 2792 at Freedom Hall. Very exciting game. I dont know what the answer is cause I do like the thought of playing in Freedom Hall but man it sure feels empty. Problem is you cannot really put up some black drapes in the end zones due to the scoreboards being in the endzones

Hard to believe BU won that game, considering the the limited lineup and Penn's dismal play. Good 3 point shooting and good defense made the difference. (I am not going to make my usual rant about not playing DeVault, but if I were, I would say how much worse could he be than no points and 9 turnovers)

Same sentiments here. 2792 wouldn't fit in Knights Hall but it feels like an empty barn in Freedom Hall. It was good to see some students at yesterday's game however.

RE: 2021-22 Season
In the not-too-long ago days, before so many chair-back seats were added, they could cram 3,200 into Knights Hall for games (on the too-rare occasion that many would show up). Nice to see the increased attendance last night, though.
Like I said on the BU-EKU thread in over on the "Conference Talk" portion of this site, even a depleted Knights squad is tough when Pfriem is hot -- hope he can keep doing that consistently. And I'm still "loving me some" Hopf.

Hopf is looking like a true D1 4. His quick emergence is the benefit of Thelan's unfortunate injury situation. We need Thelan back for some depth in the frontcourt but he is not going to be taking much time from Hopf who wil continue to improve with playing time. Hopf, being a freshman, will likely continue to get physically stronger over his career, which will be a great benefit to the team. The TV guys were saying that BU felt like they got a steal in the recruiting of Hopf. My guess is that his off court situation with his schools and eligibilty may have put some people off. Scotty said from the get go that Hopf was a great kid with a great attitude, chalk up another one for Coach. I saw video of Hopf playing in high school and it showed that he could shoot and score, what I am pleasantly surprised by is how he moves. He does an excellent job of moving his feet on defense. Look for him to get better at putting the ball on the floor and going to the hoop.
Pfriem should remain the first choice at the 3, even when Claycomb comes back, although the team really needs Claycomb back and playing well. There will be plenty of minutes for him.
