No restrictions. Except for one. Beach volleyball to the Big West.

AAC doesn't sponsor BVB. Only Tulane plays and in the CCSA.

And the Poll is meant for AAC alumni/fans not Big West or WAC or MWC or SEC or B1G or anyone else. If you voted and are not an AAC school first fan or alumni, please don't vote.

I think half a million a year is more than enough incentive for the Big Sky to take in a school that’s in driving range of 7 out of 10 members.

You’re assuming Boise State would be fine with moving its men’s basketball program from the 12th to the 22nd rated conference (based on 2021 NET rankings). That’s not a sound assumption.

Correct---and I dont think they are. They'd be better off going to the WAC if they were willing to take one of the more available options. That said--I'd be ok with giving Boise a full AAC membership. But thats it. No other western schools at this time. We need one school---not 3. We can reassess the situation AFTER we see how the CFP and P5 mid-2020's realignment situations play out.

I’m not convinced the aac is in a position of strength here. Boise has a better shot at the autobid from the mwc, no? Same reason that it makes sense for Texas and Oklahoma to stay in the B12. College football is not the NFL, and the goal is to win championships, not to just make more money.

I'm with quo on this one. I'd rather not have them in the AAC at all.

No restrictions. Let them in. Good football and decent men's BB programs. What other options does the AAC have. BYU and Army don't seem interested and most of the other programs don't move the needle.

What Alaska Fairbanks or cambridge not being invited? What the heck let's get tel Aviv or Sri Lanka st. Flying out to boise st to play tennis or some other non revenue sport is insane. Not only does it not make sense but you are proving that you do not care about your athletes and your fans. I can see football and football only. AAC, you make no sense at all. Go after west virginia or just add Charlotte uab southern miss odu or army. Why not make Boise st football only and get vcu Dayton or st louis to be in the other sports. Boise st could put other sports in west coast conference

Boise St’s non-football home options are limited to probably just the WAC should it go football-only to the AAC. If the AAC can wait until the XII contract expires in 2024, there may be some opportunities for the AAC schools. For example, if the SEC gets Texas/Texas Tech and the B1G gets Kansas/Oklahoma, the remaining 6 could choose to pick up Central Florida, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, South Florida, Temple, and BYU/Wichita St (if BYU would agree to football-only.)

XIV
East: Central Florida, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Memphis, South Florida, Temple, West Virginia
West: Baylor, BYU, Houston, Iowa St, Kansas St, Oklahoma St, TCU

The remaining AAC could shake out as follows: Navy football returns to independence. SMU, Tulane, and Tulsa bring along Rice to the MWC.

MWC
East: Air Force, Colorado St, New Mexico, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, Wyoming
West: Boise St, Fresno St, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego St, San Jose St, UNLV, Utah St

Lol. This is less realistic than anything any AAC fan has said. West Virginia? Seriously? Why not Notre Dame? Then you go from there to suggesting the bottom of CUSA East as candidates....

Look—-Boise as a “all sports” invite has its drawbacks—but at least they make the AAC more intriguing. I just don’t see how any of the other eastern G5’s do a thing to make the AAC more interesting.

Then play with 11. Frankly, I think your conference is overrated. You are okay, but you will never be a p5. You just won't and first chance they get, cincinnati, memphis, houston and the Florida's will leave. I believe you guys need to think out of the box. I would offer west virginia the world to come to the american and then go straight to TNT and you could probably get a contract, maybe some stability and you know west virginia is spending a ton of money on non-revenue sports and if you could convince them you are all in, you could get them and remember most of your squad were conference usa schools at one time and Charlotte would make a great fit for aac. Big city and fits right in the region. You guys are chasing PIPE DREAMS. Hey, it would be worth a shot.

RE: AAC Fans: what terms would you accept Boise State as Full Member?
Does the AAC really need a B-12 version of WV on an island in Boise for all sports. Can the AAC schools actually afford those travel costs long term. The AAC is not handing out $30 million plus to its members annually to cover those costs like the B-12. If Boise isn't willing to join for FB only then stay at 11 FB teams as long as the waiver allows until the next potential realignment period in 2024 - 2025. Then see what happens before making a move. Who knows maybe BYU or Army will come around by then for FB only if nothing else opens up. Save the all sports offer for a school more in line with the AAC which is closer even if it is for someone like Colorado ST or Air Force to get back to 12 FB and 12 MBB teams down the road. 07-coffee3

What if the Big 12 is raided but not completely, in the sense that Oklahoma moves but not Texas? The Big12 will reload, maybe BYU and Cinci, the AAC is back to 11 but this time with long road trips to Boise making it harder to convince their "next best" choice to move.

Ask the NCAA to extend the waiver by a year because Covid19 disrupted discussions, see if it is clearer in 2023 which way things are going.

I think we can can easily get to the point that the AAC is considered to be, perhaps not P5—but not G5 either. A tweener conference so to speak. Once you hit that milestone, it gets easier to see how the conference could slowly morph into a lower level power conference similar to the old Big East....but that could take a decade or two of consistently high performance.

That said, I much prefer a Boise “football only” invite. I’m also fine with standing pat at 11. I could even live with a full “all sports” Boise invite—-but it’s not my preferred choice. The 3-team western “all-sports package deal” seems too risky a play for the current situation. I’d rather sit tight than make a risky big move that might not be the game changer some expect it to be. I’m not saying it couldn’t work—-but I’m not convinced that’s the best move to make just yet.

IMO, the perception of the AAC is kind of strange. I think our perception is actually better than our reality. That is, I think we are basically regarded nationally as a kind of tweener conference, in terms of both money and performance on the field. I think the typical PAC or SEC or B1G fan thinks of us that way, when they think of the AAC at all (probably not much but still).

The reality is that, if we look at the totality of the CFP era, we are clearly closer on both metrics to the "G" level than the "P" level. We are actually better described as the "Best of the Gs" conference, not a "tweener" conference, in the sense of being more or less midway between the Gs and the Ps.

But I think we have that tweener perception anyway, and this in spite of our formal "G' designation in the CFP contracts and NCAA categories.

Maybe that means "P6" has made inroads.

(06-05-2021 02:43 PM)Stugray2 Wrote:  AAC fans only! (only AAC school alumni/fans should vote; others please don't).

Under what terms (restrictions) would you accept Boise State as a full member?

The poll asks which one team sport or combination of two team sports would you require Boise State place in another conference as an associate before you would find full membership acceptable.

Key Reference Points:

* Individual sports are not considered, as they are not scheduled by the conference, schools make their own schedules. The only conference sponsored event is the championship meet which all schools attend. It makes no difference how many schools or where they are located, all have to attend the same event. Boise State membership has no impact.

* NCAA requires Men's and Women's Basketball be played in the member conference, as these are considered "core" to the definition of full membership, so any exclusion of these is off the table.

* A contract clause can be written that allow a school to have sponsored sports in other conferences (e.g., Fairfield Men's Lacrosse plays in the CAA, not the MAAC)

* A contract clause can be written that stipulates a future team sport added to the school's list of sponsored sports will not automatically be granted membership in the conference. (Thinking baseball here, but could be any team sport)

I am ok with anything the conference decides to do.

RE: AAC Fans: what terms would you accept Boise State as Full Member?
If no other conference wants Boise's BB and Olympic Sports teams why does the AAC want them stuck out there on a WV / B-12 island with all the additional travel costs. Stick with 11 FB members for now as long as the conference can extend the waiver or until the NCAA legislation changes, if Boise doesn't want a FB only membership. Their past actions, refusal to pay the exit fee, and lawsuit don't warrant a second bite of the apple. Besides they are not the greatest show on Smurf Turf any more any way. 04-jawdrop 01-lauramac2 03-nutkick 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 04-chairshot 05-mafia 02-13-banana COGS 04-cheers

RE: AAC Fans: what terms would you accept Boise State as Full Member?
As a fan of programs in G5 leagues the AAC and C-USA (Middle Tennessee State), it seems the perception from college sports fans I talk to in Nashville is that the AAC has, indeed, created some separation from the other four G5 conferences. Many of these folks see the American in football as similar to the old Big East football grouping — i.e., a solid and respected "tweener" football league that each year will offer two to three teams that can hang with just about any team from a power league.

The American is never going to be a true power league in football, so for those fans of AAC teams who argue otherwise ... please let it rest. The goal is to continue to create some separation — mainly in football, TV deals and athletics department budgets (as the AAC basketball situation has bordered on bad — but that's another topic).

I've seen this attitude from fans of other AAC schools on my own publication before, and I think it is categorically insane.

Dying on the hill of "BOISE IS TOO FAR IT ISN'T FAIR TO OUR ATHLETES" feels strange to me, given the geographic makeup of the rest of this league (you already make Olympic teams fly from Tampa to Cincinnati to Tulsa to Philly, is another two hours on a flight once a year really THAT big of a deal?)...but I can at least understand that.

Dying on the hill that Boise isn't good enough is just not accurate on any level. And trying to make any appeal to history, in THIS league, feels equally ignorant.

West Virginia would be insane to leave the Big XII for anything that’s not a P5. The AAC can offer any money and accommodations they want but at the end of they day, West Virginia won’t shoot themselves in the foot by literally giving up any CFP and NC hopes since no G5 will ever be in the CFP, at least in its present form. They won’t give up basketball games against Kansas and a good basketball league for games against Cincinnati, Houston, Temple and Memphis.

There’s a better chance for WVU to join the Pac-12 than demoting themselves to a G5 like the American. Neither one is happening.

RE: AAC Fans: what terms would you accept Boise State as Full Member?
the perception of the AAC from all walks of college sports fans is that we are being shafted by being left out of the of the Autonomous playoffs
the Autonomous playoffs suck anyway and everyone knows this and the A5 knows this and they don’t care, why should they, they have everything they want, they have all the recruiting locked up have big network money and their so called championship that represents only them
As jrsec has pointed out many times that very possible hugh changes are coming to all of college sports because of the “ pay for play “ proceedings now taking place and the fallout effects everything potentially.
so the next couple of years could get super crazy
some states will allow pay for play and others will not , the state that don’t allow it will have zero recruiting potential
when a 5* can fetch a million dollars out of high school or get a big signing bonus while in high school from some local business it will be great for that student athlete but in the long term it will ultimately destroy college sports as we now know it
