Sam Mitchell
I listen to this guy on XM radio a lot and he is a really smart guy. A real voice of reason. Just a lot of wisdom in there. Sure wish he was still in that locker room for our Tigers.

RE: Sam Mitchell
Not sure of the situation with Memphis...

But I could see myself having a tough time settling for being an assistant college coach after winning Coach of the Year in the NBA...Especially if I don't need the money.

RE: Sam Mitchell
From what I’ve heard his position was only going to be for a year or two at the most.

RE: Sam Mitchell
Penny was able to get a past NBA coach of the year to coach on his staff for one year, then he got a noted skills coach to come for a couple of years -

It is a safe assumption that Sam Mitchell did not come to Memphis with the intent of finishing his career as Penny's assistant coach... It was a comfortable landing spot for a year for Mitchell and gave Penny a very notable assistant for a year, it was a win-win.

I always thought he was an incredible basketball mind. I was sitting next to him and Penny at a local bbq joint when he was recruiting someone and just listening to him was amazing. I also watched video from several camps he was teaching at. He was stern and direct but had a great demeanor in giving feedback to young players.

If you don’t listen to him on XM NBA radio, you should. So much practical wisdom.

Definitely the bad cop when he was here, but that was what the team needed. A great personality, but definitely all business when it comes to coaching.

Nailed it.
