Leading 5-2, Charlotte gives up 5 earned runs in B7 & B8 to lose to host East Carolina, 7-5.

(Aggregated Pirate B7/B8 baserunners: 1 double, 1 single, 4 walks and an HBP.)

RE: NCAA Baseball Tournament
ODU beats South Carolina on a T8 run -- two singles, 3-1 groundout (bunt?), popup, 2-out IBB & RBI walk on 3-2 pitch.

Dallas Baptist scored 5 runs in B7, which led to an 8-6 win over TCU.

In T1, Gonzaga committed two errors that led to Oregon scoring 4 unearned runs. Of course, the Zags lost by 4 runs, 7-3. (Also not helping: hitting into two double plays, one with the bases loaded.)

RE: NCAA Baseball Tournament
Maryland tied its elimination game with Charlotte, 1-1, in B8 with a single, wild pitch, E1 & double play.

Charlotte led off T9 with two singles, but the lead runner was picked off. 49er batters then struck out, walked (on 4 pitches) and lined out to 2nd.

Maryland wasted no time in B9, loading the bases with three straight singles ... and then the next Terp hit the first pitch he saw into right field for the game-winning RBI single.

Charlotte loses, 2-1, and is out of the tourney.

If someone can explain why ASU was awarded a run in 6th, I would appreciate it.

The rule is umpire's discretion. The umpire's discretion was pretty clearly wrong in this case, IMO, as the ball would've likely bounced off the umpire's chest protector and landed next to the catcher.

That said, Stags take the lead in the bottom half of the sixth and now lead 9-7 going to T8.

Stags win!

A 2-out double put Sun Devils at 2nd & 3rd; tying run in scoring postion. A new pitcher was brought in ... and the next Devil up wiffed on a 1-2 pitch.

And they're playing without the conference Player of the Year, who got injured in practice just before heading to the Austin regional.

From where I was sitting, looked like a curve ball.

And USM eliminated Florida State.

To no one's surprise, Charlotte is the first (and hopefully the only) CUSA team eliminated today. I kind of ruffled some Charlotte fans' feathers by suggesting a few weeks ago that they were probably the weakest team of the top four in CUSA. That was true after our split with them, and it's even more true today.

I stand corrected. The NCAA.com site had it wrong initially but have since corrected it. It did seem early for a UVA-ODU result. Here’s hoping ODU still eliminates UVA and advances.

> USM not off to the best start in T1 vs. Ole Miss: K, BB, HBP, BB, HBP (1-0) - New Pitcher - Sac Fly (2-0), 2 RBI double (4-0), F-9.

But in B1, the Eagles halved the deficit with a lead-off double and dinger! Then after a K, they strung together a single, walk, RBI bloop single (4-3), single, RBI fielder's choice forceout at 3B (nearly an E-5) (4-4), passed ball ...

"A first inning disaster by both sides. Southern Miss looked terrible in their half of the first, and now Ole Miss is gifting everything back."

... and more! Eagles continue with a 2RBI single (4-6). Wow!! New Ole Miss pitcher coming in.

> ODU gave up 2 runs to UVA in their T1: single, sac bunt, RBI single (1-0), double, RBI single (2-0), sac fly, F-8.

> On the other hand, LaTech scored 2 in its T1 vs. NC State on a 1-out walk and home run!

Now 9-5 USM is only the 2nd inning. Neither team is going to have any pitchers left after this one.

UT scores a T1 run on no hits -- four walks! The last three were with 2 outs and the final, run-scoring BB was on 4 pitches. Grrr.

USM's lead is narrowed to 9-7, but they're batting with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 7th.

LaTech, on the other hand, is staring down elimination with a 7-13 deficit that NC State is in position to extend. Bottom 8th.
