Women's College World Series
Game 1:

James Madison (unseeded) 4
#1 OKlahoma 3

In 8 innings. If you don't follow softball this is a historic upset. OU was 50 and 2 on the season and averaged 11 runs a game.

The Dukes move to the winners bracket and the Sooners are in the losers bracket of a double elimination tournament.

Wow, truly pathetic. I need to catch the replay.

JMU had a 3 run homer in the top of the 3rd and OU had a 3 run dinger in the bottom of the 3rd and JMU a solo shot in the top of the 8th. Alexander pitched another stellar game. JMU has now beaten 3 seeded teams Tennessee in Knoxville, Missouri in Columbia and Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. Most Impressive! #9, #8, and #1. But the Sooners may be back for a rematch, we'll see. Alabama and UCLA are yet to play and Oklahoma State isn't too shabby either and Arizona, Florida State and Georgia are on streaks.

In a well played game #2 Oklahoma State edges Georgia 3-2.

Alabama 5 Arizona 1 Fouts had a commanding performance striking out the side 4 times in a 7 inning game.

U.C.L.A. 4 Florida State 0: Pitcher's duel until the 5th when an error in the infield led to a Bruin run. They would score 3 more in the bottom of the 6th.

Day 2: Winners' bracket: James Madison 2 Oklahoma State 1

How were they not seeded to begin with? They're 40-2 on the season now.

Regardless, congrats to them. That's probably the upset of the year in college athletics for the 2020-21 athletic season.

Certainly a historic win, but mediocre teams don't make the WCWS. Too much good competition in college softball. Too many tough rounds in postseason.

Not that I expect JMU to win it all, but if you've gotten this far then you're capable of beating anyone.

Top of the 3rd inning and Bama is currently leading Arizona 1-0. Going to be a good game, I think.

Rachel Garcia, the National Player of the Year in 2018 & 2019, with another great pitching performance in the 4-0 won over FSU. Maya Brady, Tom’s niece, hit a two run homer in the 6th. That is her third consecutive game with a home run. She hits these Babe Ruth shots when she hits them out. Alabama looked good today. That should be a good game tomorrow night.

I agree. If you give it a chance, you will likely want to watch more.

RE: Women's College World Series
FYI, today's games are the two "winner's bracket" games, matching the four initial winners of game ones:

JMU vs Oklahoma State .... 6 PM CT

Alabama vs UCLA ............ to follow

Winners of these games advance to the semifinals, and since their opponents will come from the loser's side, their SF opponents will have to beat them twice on Sunday to advance to the Final, whereas these teams will only have to beat their semifinal opponent once to advance to the final.

The winners of today's games will also have the advantage of a day's rest, as Saturday's action will all be games among "losers" to determine the losers-side SF positions.

Both games slated for ESPN2

The four losers of Thursday's games - Oklahoma, FSU, Georgia and Arizona - now have a very tough road to hoe.

To make the finals, each will now have to win four straight games, two on Saturday against "fellow losers" and two on Sunday in the semis vs a team that has won two games to make the semis from the winner's bracket. A loss in any of them sends them home.'

In the past 25 years, only two teams, FSU in 2018 and Arizona in 2010, have made the Finals after losing their first WCWS game. And only FSU has won.

Thanks JR for the correction about FSU. :)
