I think it would sellout Bartow but not so sure a Legacy Arena sell out unless it is the first event post-renovation..

I don't think either of these would be a sell-out.

Are you serious? Why on earth would you think Bartow wouldn’t be a sell out? BJCC will be damn near one if not a sell out

When is the last time we sold out Bartow? We have some positive momentum for the first time in a long time, but we still didn’t even play in the postseason last year. It takes time to build a fan base and bring casual fans to an arena.

I'll have some of what you're smoking if you think Legacy will be near a sellout for the West Virginia game. The last time Memphis visited Bartow it was no where near sold out. The last time North Carolina came to Bartow while Hasse was coach didn't sellout.

That said, it will probably be a very good crowd because it will probably be the first game played at the newly renovated arena and I am sure people will want to come out and see the new digs. If West Virginia is ranked in the Top 25 and UAB has a good record heading into the game that will help with attendance.

I hope it's a sellout crowd but I'm expecting between 6000 to 8000 for the game.

100% agree. I hope we are proven wrong, but 8k seems to be a very reasonable high end estimate in my mind.

Greater chance to get 8k+ at the new BJCC as an “event” than at Bartow. UAB basketball needs to be reintroduced to Birmingham. The city has changed a lot in the time since UAB Basketball was consistently nationally relevant. I think there are a decent amount of people who’ll check this game out at the BJCC who wouldn’t go to Bartow. Civic thing.

There is a bigger picture too. New BJCC needs events, and I am also guessing it needs basketball events as part of hosting ncaas. It’s mutually beneficial for UAB to play there.

With all that said, I think it’s going to take a couple of years for crowds to bounce back from covid, and to some degree, not sure they ever will covid or no covid. The trend in sports is declining attendance across the board.

Another factor that could affect attendance, bowl game. There are 9 bowls (two on Dec 17th and 7 on Dec 18th) and CUSA are participants in 4 of those games. So unless UAB is playing in the Peach or Citrus Bowl more than likely they will playing in a bowl game on the 17th or 18th and that's gonna affect attendance for the basketball game.

The BJCC will not be hurting for events and basketball has never been a major factor in that regard. But they got the 1st and 2nd rounds of the tourney back so that's already a win. And the G-League will be playing there so the BJCC is set as far as basketball events goes.

The only way the BJCC benefits from UAB playing there is putting fannies in the seats. We'll see if that happens on Dec 18th.

You take a West Virginia when you can get them but as an admin you kinda need to be looking at that bowl schedule when making the bball sked, no?

The Armed Forces Bowl is on Dec 22nd vs the AAC so maybe UAB would be fortunate enough to play in that game.

Crowd will be at least 9k if no UAB Football bowl conflict. It will be billed as more of an event. It will end up prime time TV as well.

RE: West Virginia vs. UAB at Legacy Arena on December 18th.
I believe it will be helpful to publicize the areas for parking at Bartow Arena as well as the BJCC Arena and stadium. Many out of town casual fans may benefit from suggestions of best approach streets and location of lots well in advance of game dates. Parking at Legion Field was simple -- two streets and at least four entry points. Plus even casual fans had some experience with the stadium. Many or Most casual fans will probably lack that comfort level around the new construction sites at both locations (Bartow and BJCC). A new area map needs to go out with all ticket sales.

During his last years, I was able to use my brother's courtside tickets and his parking deck pass for the lot across the street from the east side doors. if I had to attend today, I would need new parking directions since Lot #15 (and probably others) is no longer available.
