CG- Feel free to move to off topic
I know many talked about Stevens when the Carolina coaching search was happening, not knowing they'd "Settle".
News out of Boston, Ainge stepping down and Stevens moving to the front office.

I get a Theo Epstein vibe from Stevens. He's burned out with coaching, so he's taking a front office gig, which makes sense. I see him more as an executive than a coach and I feel like he do well in basketball ops position.
The difference between Stevens and Theo is that Stevens hasn't actually won anything yet. He's young, bright and well respected, but he's burned out rather than bored.
No doubt his name will come up again for a college gig (e.g. durham), but if he's burned out with the NBA, it's hard to imagine he'll truly enjoy OAD and the transfer portal.

Agree, i'd be shocked if he went back to coaching now especially if he does well in the front office. What does surprise me is Ainge moving out. He's made some really good moved over the last several years to put a really solid young core together.

Two thoughts on Ainge being out. One is basketball related and one is not.
From a team building perspective, Ainge has made a lot of good moves, but he hasn't lived up to his reputation. I'm not the NBA guru that SN08 or Gary likely are, but my casual fan perception is that Ainge has won a lot of trades and stockpiled draft picks, but he hasn't built a championship caliber team. Tatum is a DUDE and Brown has improved and emerged as a legit 'big 3' on a playoff team. Having 2 pieces under 25 yo figured out puts them in far better shape than most teams, but the pieces around them are meh. I love Kemba but he's the wrong side of 30, injury prone and a defensive liability.
The other aspect with Ainge is his response to Kyrie talking about racism in Boston. Kyrie is not the first player to speak on this publicly, so his response that “I never heard any of that, from any player that I’ve ever played with in my 26 years in Boston. I never heard that before from Kyrie and I talked to him quite a bit," is telling. If players are more willing to share their concerns publicly than they are to share with the GM, it may point to a bigger issue. TO BE CLEAR, I'm not accusing Ainge of anything, but it strikes me as out of touch which seemingly matters when trying to recruit free agents.

I don't put any stock into anything Kyrie at all. That dude is is probably the most out of touch athlete i ever remember seeing in my entire life.
I do find the timing of the Stevens announcement and K announcement curious. But, supposedly Sheyer has been named coach in waiting?

RE: NBA Chat
What I gathered from the press conference is this had been in the works for a couple of months. The Kyrie stuff didn't have anything to do with it... DA had a great run as the GM there but he had some noticeable misses the last couple years for whatever reasons. At the end of the day he won a championship and left the team with 2 young dudes who can lead the franchise. He should be applauded for that.
As for Brad Stevens, his strength as an evaluator of NBA and college talent should serve him well in this role. They also have a dude named Mike Zarren in that front office who I would assume will take on a bigger role. He's turned down NBA GM jobs in the past due to him being loyal to the Celtics. He's more of analytics guy along the lines of Darryl Morey. Interesting backstory if anyone cares to look into him. Graduated near the top of his class from Harvard law and chose an internship with the Celtics over a big law firm job. Paid off in the end...
Stevens' first move will probably be his most important. This Head coaching hire will most likely make or break their future.

I can't imagine they won't have a solid list to work from. Given the franchise, it's history and the fact that they do have a solid young core.

lol I'm nothing close to an NBA guru. My interest in the sport has waxed and waned over the years. I enjoy talking about the history of the game and some of the modern storylines here and there, but I really don't watch a lot and haven't for a long time.
The only reason I know anything at all about what goes on is I do play Fantasy NBA, but never for money or anything. Usually I just grab a friend or 2 and we join an ESPN public league.

Hahaha. I did see somebody compare Brad Stevens coaching Tatum to Doug Collins coaching Jordan. While a stretch, I'm sure you might appreciate that.

Meh, Kyrie.
He thinks the earth is flat. I don't really listen to people at all of that level of intelligence.

I generally agree with you, and a year ago I would have completely agreed with you, but there have been a few instances this year that caused me stop and think that he's a pretty thoughtful person. Yes, flat-earth nonsense deserves ridicule, but I've gained some respect for him this year.

Wow. Opposite for me. Flat earth stuff aside, the ridiculousness of the past year has caused me to go the opposite way with him. I never liked him but i've gotten to a much worse spot. He's just a disrespectful whiney little B@#$! It's times like this i really wish it was the NBA of old with a bit of self policing. Can you imagine what would happen the next game if he had done that to the Pistons logo in the late 80's /90's? I think it's a sign of where the NBA today that arguably most of it's top stars are just so unlikable. Thinking of Lebron, Kyrie, and KD specifically. (and for the record i loved watching KD in college)
