Like LSU, Virginia won four straight elimination games after dropping their opening game. They beat Jacksonville, South Carolina and Old Dominion twice to capture their regional.

UVA may have some of that 2015 championship magic, when they went through the CWS scoring 24 runs and giving up 24 runs, but somehow won the title anyway.

on a quasi-related note, Summit-bound St. Thomas finished as national runner-up in Division III baseball. The championship series Game 2 loss to Salisbury was the last athletic contest the Tommies will ever have in D3. Their softball team also reached the D3 equivalent of the WCWS.

RE: 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament
I will be rooting for the following:

1. Vanderbilt (obviously)

2. NC State (family ties)

3. (tie) USF and ECU (go, AAC)

5. Notre Dame (Catholic)

6. Dallas Baptist ("little man")

Congrats to the 16 programs (and their fans) that have advanced.

Apparently they are the only higher seeded team that doesn't get to play their super regional at home.

Big Ten teams don't have this problem, since none of them are still playing.

It's due to NCAA Covid protocols. The NCAA set up Covid testing and procedures at the 16 regional sites. They were only going to hold super regionals at one of the 16 regional sites. The super regionals were not open to re-bidding this year. The only other open regional site was in Fort Worth. Since Virginia was a higher seeded 3 than DBU, Virginia gets to stay in Columbia, rather than play a virtual road series against DBU in Fort Worth.

It's about as neutral as you can get at this time of year.

Vanderbilt shuts out ECU 2-0. Just a well pitched game on both sides.

Yes, good ball game.

Stanford 1-0 over TT early.

My father watched the entire game (he's followed Vanderbilt sports since 1945 or so) and told me he was impressed with East Carolina (I missed due to work).

Vandy needs to take care of business and win Saturday. Because if ECU wins and it comes down to a Game 3 on Sunday ... our Commodores could be in trouble. ECU is legit.

After the outfield error to make it 10-2, the announcer was so right in saying this completely changes Stanford's pitching decisions for the weekend.

The broadcasters said as much too. That one of Vandy's weaknesses is their #3 starter(s).

NC State was absolutely pummeled by Arkansas. Love seeing it now that I know some fans paid $900 to see their hogs play. I like loyal fan bases, it's actually a thing with BIG, SEC and Big 12 schools.

That is correct. Pops and I spent some time tonight discussing the VU "third starter" situation. Vanderbilt has multiple "solid" options but not one "stand-out" No. 3 starting pitcher (unlike with past strong Commodore teams).
