Rough year at Fullerton. Vanderhook's seat must be red hot.

Big West is typically a 2 or 3 bid league. Over the last decade or so

4 bids in 2014
3 in 2013 and 2016
2 in 2010, 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2021
1 in 2012, 2018 and 2019

How the Big 12 can have 3 national seeds, majority of talking heads call it 2nd best conference this year, and only get 4 teams in, is beyond me.

It really is, and a Gainesville regional with Florida and Miami is great for our local fans, and great exposure nationally.

For as long as I can remember, the committee has always liked, no loved, the ACC. The ACC always gets a ton of teams in.

The ACC has won the baseball national title like once in the past 60 years, but they get a boatload of teams in every year anyway.

The ACC in baseball probably has the worst "Teams In/Titles Won" ratio of any conference in any sport with a large playoff.

Well, the Big 12 was kind of top-heavy. Going by RPI, the best team left out was Baylor, at #34. That's solid bubble territory. LSU, e.g., had to sweat out the bubble and their RPI was #28.

FWIW, Baylor is the "first alternate" if a team drops out because of the virus, as long as the cancelation occurs outside of 24 hours before the scheduled start time of the team's game.

It's a nice drivable distance for our fans and the iceing on top is another chance at UF. Go Bulls!

I guess we see things differently. It's no fun being in a regional with multiple opponents from the same state. That's just me, though.

There were multiple upsets in conference tournaments. Jacksonville (A Sun), USF (AAC), Presbyterian (Big South) and Rider (MAAC) would not have made it without their respective auto bids. Liberty, ECU, Campbell and Fairfield were already locks and took away four at-large bids. Which you could say burst the bubbles of Baylor and the other First Four Out.

The Ivy league sat out this year as well. Whoever was the last team in, owes them a thank you.

Well, then you must think LSU's road is a lot of fun, LOL. Their team has been sent to Eugene, Oregon to play teams from Oregon, Washington and Connecticut. That's about as far afield from Louisiana in terms of location and teams played as can be, and the fans I have read aren't too happy about it. Would much preferred something like the Ruston regional, which is basically the same distance from LSU that Gainesville is from Tampa.

As you say, different point of view. I admit that if I was a player, I would probably prefer to get sent to some far-off "exotic" locale rather than being placed more locally. The fun of travel and seeing new things, etc. So if I was an LSU player, I'd be excited by the trip to Oregon to play west coast teams.

But for a fan, I'd prefer an easier/cheaper travel option.

That would be UC - Santa Barbara. According to the committee:

Alabama
Michigan
North Carolina
UC Santa Barbara

FIRST FOUR OUT

Baylor
Pittsburgh
Georgia
Ball State

RE: 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament
When Vanderbilt baseball is only the fourth-best SEC team, the SEC has experienced an outstanding season.

If an SEC team does not win the national title this time, it will have been a huge upset — and a major disappointment for the league and its fans. I don't foresee my Commodores taking it all this year. But if an SEC team other than VU wins, that will be good for the SEC, which is, indirectly, positive for Vanderbilt.

Good luck to all our posters who have a team in the tourney.

I would call it a "disappointment", but not a major one, because the SEC has won the baseball title pretty frequently - defending champ, two of the last three, three of the last six, five of the last 10 - so losing one you are expected to win doesn't mean that much, IMO, doesn't really hurt the league.

It's not like the SEC is, say, the B1G in this year's basketball tournament, with a bunch of high seeds (so favored to win) and not having won since 2000 (thus starving for a win). The SEC isn't starving for a win.

Those are all fine points, Quo. And looking at it objectively, and as a reasonable fan/human, it should not be a disappointment.

But to fans of SEC teams (and particularly hard-core SEC fans), it will be considered a major disappointment if an SEC teams fails to win it all.

Per the discussion from the selection show linked below, the "last four in" are listed in alphabetical order, not rank order.

The "first four out" are in rank order because that's the order of replacement in the bracket in case a team in the field has a covid outbreak before the end of the day on Wednesday (today).
