RE: 2021-2022 baseball
I think they have a good pitching now but I agree-Scalf and Bass ran the guy off to avoid taking the heat themselves.

It wasn't their decision, and it's probably the final factor that led Scalf to retire.

Scalf was assured that Williams was safe and he passed that information on to his players. Some of whom a were threatening to leave the team. The administration just let his contract run out and would not allow it to be renewed.

Overreaction by liberals. It is a university, after all, and despite what we may think, UNCW is as infected with the stupidity as every other university.

Hell, there is some noise right now that the "Fighting Irish" logo is offensive to some. Freaking really?!?!?

RE: 2021-2022 baseball
The bigger question to me with Williams and Cain the speaker is why is Williams the guy to lose his job ? Cain was talking with the team for years before Williams was hired and obviously Scalf knew the guy and approved of him and his huge fees for speaking with his team. The whole deal smells bad and they never really attempted to let people know what happened even though there have a few rumors circulated ever since. Williams is now at Liberty as the pitching coach -seems a little ironic to me .

It's my understanding that it was a new idea that Cain was using with our pitchers. After seeing it, Williams advised the players not to use it. They did anyway. It really blew up when a female adviser was not allowed to sit in when a meeting was held about the situation. Then came a Title IX complaint. And it looks like Williams ended up being the scapegoat. This is what I was told by several reliable sources.

Small world, Cain grew up in the town next to me played many sports against him, and his late brother Joe. I forgot he was the root of those issues

He was the guy who lost his job not the only person involved for sure . I heard a couple of versions of what happened along with who was there and what happened afterward. I think that is most likely part of it but I would not hold my breath waiting for Bass or Scalf to speak on it . Scalf did a great job with the program but not with this situation .
Myers has done a good job and the team is capable of a big year in 22.

Much ado about nothing. The sensitivities of a few resulted in an overblown reaction. Removal came from the top. Bass and Scalf had no say so in the decision. They had handled it internally, took all the proper steps, but it wasn't good enough.

They obviously didn't have it handled at all and when they had the chance to speak about it they both backed down and let it go. Bass is never gonna speak up for anybody but I thought Mark would but he didn't . It was just a mistake to pay a guy like Cain big money and not have a good idea what his message was going to be to the team .

Scalf went to bat for Williams. He was told Williams would not be fired. Mark went to the players and told them Williams was not going anywhere, not knowing what he was told was the twisted truth.

I actually know all of these guys and have for years -except Bass and I have no desire to know or meet him. But you go ahead run your trap as always like you are in the know-straight BD artist if there ever was one.

I have heard that along with we had no idea what he was doing. At this point I guess it doesn't matter at all.

Kelly will step in and do a great job, Players respect him, believe he will do a better job with the pitch calling.

I'm thinking Kelly was the right choice.

Kelly is the right choice for the job now I think but I don't think pitch calling was as big an issue as execution and command . The top 3 arms from last year are gone and that leaves a ton of innings to replace and not much experience coming back . It has to be open competition for all spots now with the pitching staff .
