Congrats man. Hard fought games. It's really a shame that the ridiculous scheduling this season robbed us of what could have been a couple great series. I'd love to see us line up our Friday vs. yours etc, and duke it out Sadly, we won't get to see that. Anyways, good luck in the tourney

Hard fought games indeed and a shame someone had to lose.

Thanks.

Still think we’re untested now... 03-wink

Not an NCAA caliber team in the CAA tournament, including UNCW. So no, not tested. Wait until you get in a regional.against ranked teams with deep pens and multiple shut down starters. UNCW was good this year, but lacked a bullpen with shutdown arms. We had to take our best closer and make him a starter to right the ship earlier this season, but it left a big whole in the pen.

Good luck. We'll see how you play when you're now truly tested.

You can say that about most mid-major teams in that regard. Only Power 5 teams have high draft prospect shutdown pitchers.

NU could be two and done. They may not. The tournament is a crap shoot.
You just want to get there and give your team the best chance to win.

Looked like an out to me. Team doesn't know how to close out games. Hopefully they'll be better next year.

Tie goes to the runner. Only problem is once the call is made there has to be irrefutable evidence it was wrong. NU got the close calls 90 percent of the time.

There is absolutely no rule in any book, at any level, that’s says the tie goes to the runner.
Perhaps, but you learn that this is the way it's called 99% of the time in little league.

If you zoom in, there is no question that is an out. If we're ever going to be known as a national contender; you have to win this game as well the series against Charlotte last week. Call it what you want, but they **** the bed in both. We're a top 50 program, but in order to get real respect, you have to win these types of series and win a regional. No excuses, we're a good team in an average conference. Had the table made for us in the Columbia regional a few years ago and couldn't beat SC. Why? Because we don't know how to win when it counts. Zoom in all you want. Scalf got to see the play in freeze frame. Something the umps can't do. He said the foot touched first barely before the ball went in the glove. It was so close that the ball did go in the glove before the foot pressed the bag down. It was so close that, whatever the call, it could not have been overturned either way.

That's the point. Once the call is made it's hard to overturn. And in games where we are going to extra innings against good competition, those plays matter. We were also called out on a steal attempt at second and close video showed he was safe.

Even if you're a mid major, OOC is where you are tested. UNCW is good, but we were tested against UNC, NCSU, Ok State and we didn't do well. We also played in the much stronger south division of the CAA. Those opportunities are where you earn at large bids like we have in the past. Just had a few missing pieces this year and couldn't get it done.

Again, good luck and i'll always pull for a CAA team in any sport.

I do think you were untested. And I’d like our chances in a 2/3 lined up in a series. Being untested and not being good are two entirely different things. You are very good, and you passed the test this weekend in some very good games

NU's regional:

Fayetteville, AR

1. Arkansas
4. NJIT

2. Nebraska
3. Northeastern

Daunting, for sure. But why not go win it all the same?

By the way, 6 of the non-conference teams we faced this year made it to Regionals:

1-seed: ECU (# 13 seed overall)

2-seeds: Oklahoma State, NC State, Charlotte, VCU

3-seed: UNC

Dallas Baptist made it as a 3-seed as well. We were scheduled to face them this season, but that series ended up getting scrapped. Usually we face Campbell too, and they got in as a 3-seed.

ECU got lucky. State would have beat them no problem and probably Duke. ECTC to the Supers in all likelihood. Charlotte is solid but definitely not as good as State or Duke.

I really, really like Brant. He covers UNCW better than anyone, but I wasn't sure where he was coming from most of this weekend. On Saturday, @ing D1Baseball asking why they still had NU as their projected CAA rep, to complaining about people talking about UNC's chances at an at-large bid, and then complaining about a bang-bang play at first. Maybe he was just amped up with the excitement from the tournament, but I haven't seen that homer side of him in the past.

This play was too close to complain about and if that is the worst call that went against us, the umps weren't a factor.

Northeastern leads Nebraska 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd at the Fayetteville, AR Regional.

Earlier in the day, # 1 overall seed and Fayetteville host Arkansas had more trouble with NJIT than they likely bargained with, winning 13-8.

Now 4-0 NU in the 3rd.

Also, the other teams we faced this season who are in the Regionals are doing well except for Oklahoma St (lost to UCSB, 14-4).

Charlotte leads Maryland 12-5 in the 6th.

UNC leads UCLA 3-1 in the 6th.

VCU leads Campbell 2-1 in the 2nd.

Earlier today, ECU beat Norfolk St, 8-5, and NC State defeated Alabama, 8-1.
