Why the reaction? ODU did not apply to be a host.

I understand that, but IMO LaTech is not host worthy. They're not as overrated as Charlotte, but their resume does not warrant their current #18 ranking in the polls.

ODU's heads into Selection Monday with an RPI of 8, 4-0 vs. Top 25, 14-6 vs. Top 50. How can they not be a #1 seed?

La Tech regional - #1 La Tech, #2 NC State, #3 Alabama, #4 Rider -- they are paired with #1 Arkansas

USM is the 2 seed at #12 Ole Miss (along with the 3 seed Florida State and 4 seed SE Missouri) - that regional is paired with #5 Arizona

Charlotte is the 2 seed at #13 East Carolina (along with the 3 seed Maryland and the 4 seed Norfolk State) - that regional is paired with #4 Vanderbilt

ODU is the 11 overall seed and the 1 seed at South Carolina's regional (along with #2 USC, #3 seed Virginia and #4 seed Jacksonville) - they are paired with #6 seed TCU.

All in all, CUSA fared pretty well I'd say on the regional level. Maybe they have some tough potential SR foes, but first steps first.

And as two one-seeds and two two-seeds, at that. Only disappointment is that ODU didn't bid to host, but I have no idea what their situation is in Norfolk.

Not only 4 schools in the regionals (tied with the Big 12 for 4th place after SEC, ACC and Pac-12), but two #1 seeds and two #2 seeds...and four teams in the Top 25 (though I suspect Charlotte might drop out this week). I believe CUSA had 5 schools earning bids one year (with Memphis joining ECU, USM, UCF and ourselves), but typically it was us as a #1 or #2 seed, followed by a couple #3 seeds.

When bids had to be in (probably in April), Virginia was still under pretty strict in-person restrictions for people to attend sporting events (like maybe 100 people total in attendance, and must be family for the teams). And honestly, it didn't seem like it would change much until mid-June or later, based on where everyone was assuming COVID numbers were going to go. Certainly can't make money on attendance that restricted.

Little did they know that things would essentially open up Memorial Day weekend.

That's my theory on why ODU didn't bid.

ODU could not bid their home field (minimum size I believe) and could not work out the scheduling with local minor league to host at their park.
