FCS Automatic Bid Situation / ASUN & WAC for '22 & '23
Sam Herder is indicating that he's been informed that the ASUN will get a two-year waiver for '22 and '23 for the automatic bid. It is safe to presume that if the ASUN is getting said waiver, the same can be said for the WAC.

The WAC will have five fully eligible Division I teams in 2022 - the Texas institutions leaving the Southland and Southern Utah.

We all assumed this would be the case but it's nice to see further affirmation albeit not confirmed via the ASUN or WAC.

I’m certainly happy to hear the waiver has probably been approved even though ACU is not likely to be in contention for the autobid. I feel confident that ACU will be very competitive in a number of sports in the new WAC- both men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, baseball, cross country. Sadly, I’m not nearly as confident about football.

Autobid or not, I would bet a large amount of money that the WAC champion would have received an invite to the FCS playoffs.

More than likely, yes.

However the one thing to consider is that with just six conference games, if a WAC team crapped the bed OOC and then went 4-2 in the league to be tops based on tiebreaker... how attractive would a 5-6 or 6-5 team really be especially with one of those being a non D1 win?

Believe only one team with six Div I wins was ever allowed in playoffs as an at large and that happened 2, 3 years ago

Would rather have AQ and not have anything to worry about

True, but in reality does a 6-5 team deserve to be in the playoffs? IMO, no.

The answer to receiving a playoff bid is winning and scheduling. For any conference with less than seven scheduling becomes a bigger and bigger issue as the need to find FCS opponents to play becomes more difficult. Do most schools schedule lower division teams for a win that doesn't really help their resume or because they can't find a FCS school willing to do home and home that will fit into both schools schedule. Looking at both FBS and FCS most schools play all of their non-conference games up front and the last part of the schedules are all conference so finding enough late October and November games to fill out the schedules becomes an issue.

I’ll leave that conversation to you and the Missouri Valley Conference

I couldn't care less, the BSC gets plenty of at-large berths.
