RE: Bragga is OUT Per Kendall Rogers
If we are really striking out hard-I'd like us to take a look at the ACU head coach (former DBU pitching coach).
Did a great job at DBU and has got ACU pointed in the right direction (finished first in the Southland this year, but lost in conference tourney).

This is what happened last time, so we settled with Bragga.

Absolutely - that should be a major red flag.

RE: Bragga is OUT Per Kendall Rogers
Jason Marshall, the UTSA baseball coach before Hallmark, made 125k. I assume that Hallmark is making a bit more (call it 150-175k).
Scott Berry made 197k at USM in 2017 (assuming he makes quite a bit more now-I just can't find open records).
John McCormack at FAU made 187k at FAU in 2020.
If we can't pay 200k for a baseball coach (assuming that Hallmark would come for that) than we are in far deeper **** than I thought.

I don’t think Hallmark has turned us down. I think both assistants in the mix (Gautreau and Allen) did.

With the loss of our biggest revenue day (football game at LSU), I would not think that Rice is in a position to pay $200,000. Now, if a Dunlevie could be found to endow the head coach's salary, perhaps Rice could afford to pay market rate. Short of that, I think that we will be in for another Bragga (unless someone like Cruz, Jr. will give the school an alumnus discount).

Sean Allen made 173k at UT in 2019 FWIW.

If true, unbelievable to me that Rice can't afford to pay the same as Southern Miss for a baseball coach. And I don't say that as an insult to Southern Miss-they have a great program-it's an indictment on the amount of support the university provides to the athletic department.

Sometimes I wonder what the point is of the "insiders" who post here keeping things so vague. Who turned us down when Bragga was hired? Why did they turn us down? Can anyone confirm who or why has turned us down this time?
I know some of you have confidences that you do not want to reveal or betray ... but then why post here at all? And do the people you worry about betraying read The Parliament so that they would catch you?
I mean, there is a reason you can use pseudonyms to make online posts. Create another account and use that one for the juicy details!

I think it's pretty common knowledge that Saarloos turned us down last time (Bragga round). I don't know if anybody else did or not.

From an internet search, Schlossnagle made $1.5 million at TCU. I imagine Texas A&M doubled it.
Berkman would have coached at Rice for free.

I think it's also believed that Berkman was willing to come for just about anything but "ideology" got in the way of that hire. Before anyone says anything that IS what happened. Let's not kid ourselves, Lance had the drive and playing credentials for the job. Lack of college coaching experience was a lame excuse IMO. College baseball success is, bottom line, recruiting, development and execution which leads to winning games. I believe Lance would've excelled at all three. Big time players also want access to pro scouts etc. I wonder if Lance knows any of those guys that he could promote his players to. Hmmm.... WG was great at this as he also had relationships with scouts and pro organizations. Lance would've taken whatever salary was offered with a likely commitment to upgrade some of the facilities, tech etc. and not bolted for a "next" job.

I suspect coaches can or do make as much or more from summer camps as they do from coaching.... and I suspect some alumni groups essentially 'guarantee' those amounts... which makes it easier for a U to argue to professors that the U isn't paying that much for the coach, but still offer a large package.

Yes, but Kirk dropped out very early on, after his first interview, and before serious salary discussion....and I'm pretty sure Bragga made well over $200,000 during his time at Rice.

I wonder if Sean Allen is just waiting for the UH job to open up (which to be honest could still be this summer).

Can't say that it applies everywhere, but I believe that summer camp money is typically used to "pay" the volunteer assistant.

It is... but they can be extremely lucrative far beyond that.
The demographics for baseball are such that there are lots of families that pay tens of thousands per year to participate... which favors wealthier, often college educated families, which suits Rice, Rice recruiting and Rice Summer camps well. The Rice Investment also helps us with families/players who lack those resources... the opportunity has a lot of value therefore... which again, makes Rice attractive. Lots of universities are either/or.

Before everyone gets nervous that Rice will not get a quality coach, let me note that candidates frequently drop out if they suspect or are told that they will not be selected.

Just re-direct some of Leebron's salary. Easy-peasy.
