Best of luck to Matt Bragga ... somewhere else.

WOW.
Hate to give JK kudos but one has to for this.
Maybe he can can himself and Leebron too.

Just got the call from Mike Melendez.
Again, as much as I like Matt personally, enough was enough.
Fingers crossed on Hallmark, who's the perfect fit, though I'd take Childress in a heart beat. And, yes, I'd be happy with Lance given the jolt this program needs.

This makes complete sense. We went from being a perennial top 20 team to arguably the worst team in the state.
Former player reaction.

I'm surprised Paul Janish's name has not been mentioned as a candidate.

JK must've gotten a good sense from the relevant sources that the problems were tied to Bragga, not just something temporary like COVID.
Great to see Rice finally acting like a self-respecting school. Excited about the new chapter

Paul suffered by being associated with the poor brand of baseball being played the last few years. No issue if he is the guy, though a total staff revamp might make sense.

Childress would be a catch, but I suspect another P5 will snap him up.

I'd let a new AD do the hiring. This position doesn't have to be filled immediately.

Pass. A&M is always chasing greener pastures but something seems off with that whole situation.

I’ll take Childress in a heartbeat over any other candidate, including Hallmark. But Hallmark wouldn’t be bad.
He had a winning percentage of .660 at A&M with multiple Omaha appearances and super regionals.
Sure, things got a bit “stale” his last couple years in College Station but it’s tough for that not to happen if you don’t win a national championship.

I'd say anyone would be a step up but I don't want our AD to take that as a challenge...

We’re not going to have a new AD unfortunately.
The position does need to be filled with haste, especially with in-person recruiting restarting soon.

No reason Hallmark shouldn't be the top of our priority list

Thanks to Coach Bragga for his time.
Now get the right candidate, put them in the right situation give them the power to make the decisions and the support they need to get this program back to where we all want it to be.
Personally, Id like to see someone with ties to Rice baseball get the opportunity

Agree with this as well. The sooner the better but nothing in haste. I believe this is still an attractive job to most coaches who are available. Just need the right guy. Preferably a "Texas" guy or someone who actively recruits in Texas. I have zero problem with any of the candidates others have listed. I would like to add Saarloos to the mix at TCU but if Schlos goes to A&M Kirk may be in line for the head position. Better conference etc. so I doubt he would consider Rice.
I know this is a tough gig, college coaching and as Bum used to say "there's two kinds of coaches them's that's fired and them's that's gonna be fired" but these are men with families so let's not lose sight of that either. I wish them all the best of luck in their new opportunities.

sure, but that's part of why they get paid what they do and have contracts. I'm sure he will make vastly more than most for doing nothing for the next few years... and I'm confident he won't be doing nothing.
