MAC adds affiliates for soccer
https://getsomemaction.com/news/2021/5/2...occer.aspx

Also some discussion on csnbbs-mac conference forum. Seems GSU will share a new MSL stadium. Also a mention that WVU was joining CUSA for soccer (??). Unable to find a link to that.

RE: MAC adds affiliates for soccer
Based on the MAC article, it appears that SIUE has left the conference for soccer, however, I can’t find anything on what conference they are moving to.

NCAA requires six teams for an automatic tournament bid, so adding those two schools was necessary.

Looks like they went back to the MVC as a sixth member.

Thanks, that would have been my first guess.

I had gone to the MVC website, but, didn’t go back far enough......they announced it almost a year ago.

CUSA added Coastal Carolina as an affiliate (along with Kentucky and South Carolina) bringing their league up to nine for men's soccer. But there is no mention of WVU leaving the MAC. It's interesting to see the location of MAC affiliates by various sports.

RE: MAC adds affiliates for soccer
I posted last year around this time on the MAC needing to add more teams in order to meet NCAA requirements. While both of these new schools play decent soccer, they are extremely out of the way for most of the other schools, including us. I wish the MAC added schools closer to our area. It's hard enough to recruit with limited budgets, now with schools farther away, the team will have to incur more costs.

WVU has no allegiance to the MAC and could bolt anywhere. CUSA is closer for them and has good soccer like the MAC. Marshall from CUSA just won the College Cup

This was just speculation from a Marshall poster who was listening to an interview with Marshall head coach Chris Grassie and nothing more. Who said CUSA could have another soccer affiliate.

I don't think WVU could handle CUSA anyway, they are usually bottom 1/3 in the MAC, no way they could play through CUSA where there will be 4-5 ranked teams in the Top 25. CUSA can be argued the 2nd or 3rd best soccer conference behind the ACC and maybe Big 10.

CUSA finished with 3 ranked teams in the final United Soccer coaches poll and will probably start next year off with 4 ranked teams.

1. Marshall (Won the 2020 men's College Cup National Championship)
16. Kentucky
20. Charlotte
24. Coastal Carolina (Joining CUSA in the fall of 2021)

And depending on what FIU does they too could be ranked.

RE: MAC adds affiliates for soccer
As the OP noted (and you cited), the mention was (??) and no link to WVU-CUSA soccer could be found.

As to "who said ..." the original poster on the MAC forum did not identify their school/conference, so thanks for clearing that up by answering your own question. Also, thanks for letting us know that the speculation was apparently based on something said by the (your) Marshall coach. As to the obvious real reason for the bulk of your post, WVU is a MAC affiliate in men's soccer, so the WVU bash/Marshall brag might read better on the Marshall forum.

Congratulations to The Herd, btw.

And a welcome to Georgia State and Georgia Southern, new MAC affiliates that (along with WVU) we actually have a reason to care about!

This is just a fact WVU couldn't handle CUSA, playing more than 2 ranked teams a year. Their OOC schedule is usually littered with schools from MAAC, NEC and American East making their schedule extremely weak.

Truth is their ADs ego couldn't handle being in a conference with Marshall and being below them in the standings. Shane Lyons their AD has publicly stated that he wished nothing but failure from the other DI school in the state of WV. You can hear this from fans, that's the reason they are called fans. But rarely if ever do you actually hear it said from an admin of a university.

Frankly, couldn’t care less about your WVU/Marshall debate.

West Virginia drops MAC soccer affiliation for CUSA.

As expected, Georgia State and Georgia Southern officially replace SIUE and WVU.

WVU still in the MAC for this fall and Mountaineers should visit DeKalb one more time.

WVU was interesting to have around, not going to miss SIUe.

SIU-E should be missed more than WVU because in men's soccer, there is a long history between NIU and SIU-E. While SIU in Carbondale was never interested in soccer, SIU-E became a Division I power long ago.
