Quote:The assistant coach “states that sports medicine is not behind Coach Brannen and his methodology and that it is ‘bull crap,’” and that the assistant coach “believes it is a problem that Bob doesn’t agree with the head coach’s methods,” according to the document.

Quote:On Oct. 16, 2020, Brannen allegedly told the author of the document to keep an eye on an athletic trainer “as he doesn’t trust him,” according to the document, and Brannen allegedly said that the author of the document needed to stay “a step ahead” of the trainer and report back to Brannen.

Quote:At a team breakfast on Oct. 26, 2020, Cincinnati players were reportedly upset because Brannen had allegedly told them in a huddle in practice the previous day, “**** the heart rate monitors, I know what in-shape is,” according to the document.

Quote:Under a heading titled “Other meetings,” the author of the document wrote, “John Brannen has stated that the administration and sports medicine [staff] could not be trusted.” Brannen allegedly told men’s basketball staff members that they should only talk to him or the other staff members, and to do so in his office only, according to the document.

Ding. Ding. Ding. That's what I was mentioning upstream - I thought there was a more detailed account of his paranoia and mistrust behavior toward med staff. It's clear this man was not fit to be a head coach, was insubordinate to authority, has power and control issues - inferiority complex, and is generally not a likeable guy. Contrast this coach with Big Fick. I rest my case...

Is there still anyone on this Board that feels he is owed $5M?

I see no reason why it is mutually exclusive to both believe than Brannen is a dooshnozzle and that being a dooshnozzle is not legal reason to void his contract.

Being a douchebag, committing violations, and battling with med staff, players, and coaches are not mutually exclusive. In totality, there is enough there to have a strong case against him. Imagine if there is some more stuff kept in a safe until further needed. I'm definitively in the camp that he can stay in perpetual legal action mode until he dries up like a vacuum sealed prune from the Apollo space missions. I don't want UC paying him a dime if they don't have to.

When you start actively ignoring and spreading distrust of the medical staff....that's problematic.

Purposeful ignorance is an interesting strategy. I'd assume this is more of a reference to ignoring medical staff and risking the health of the student athletes.

When was medical staff "ignored"? Specifics and source please.

Still waiting for those specific examples of Brannen ignoring medical stafff. Were you being purposefully ignorant in your "assumption" or just making things up?

I believe stuff is out there.

Then it should be easy to show me the sourced specifics, right?

Quote:I am just curious why any UC fans or media personalities want to defend him.He isn’t the coach here anymore. He wasn’t good at his job. This isn’t Huggins/Zimpher where the guy leaving was a legend. Brannen tenure here sucked.

Basic Fairness. Treating people fairly. I want to be proud of everything UC does. Trying to slime a coach to save $5M plus is dishonorable in my opinion.

As far as his coaching tenure goes, sure it was flawed. But everyone deserves a fair chance and in my opinion he didn't get it especially when you consider the havoc COVID caused across the country - including some of the top programs and the best coaches.

It's the AD's preregoative to hire and fire. Had he just fired and paid Brannen what he was owed and said that I think we need a new direction I wouldn't have agreed, but I could abide it. To slime him as an evil villain out to destroy kids' lives without caring a bit about it lacks credence and clearly completely contradicts the experiences of many named individuals (e.g. see the latest from Justin including all the Vogt stuff).

This touches on it but does not offer more details. I would assume that a medical staff person would've advised Brannen about safety concerns to cover his own butt. I'll keep digging because I thought there was something mentioned in another thread or article that gave more information.

Quote:The written reprimand came after Brannen reportedly held an “unauthorized conditioning workout” just before the season started that violated Cincinnati’s policies, and that it was "overly strenuous and led to several student-athletes not finishing a timed run and one student-athlete needing to be helped off the court."

According to Cunningham, that practice didn’t end until a trainer stepped in and stopped it due to "concerns for the safety and welfare of the student-athletes,” per the report. One player needed medical care after that practice.

Coach, stop this! The kid isn't breathing normal.

I read through the link and nowhere did I see anyone quoted saying "Coach, stop this! The kid isn't breathing normal". And it certainly wasn't the title of the article. Did you just make it up? If so shame on you for such a cheap stunt. If it was actually said by medical staff, I've sure never heard that Brannen ignored the staffperson and told the player to instead continue whatever it was he was doing anyway.

So a player had a medical issue while doing the extremely common basketball practice of running sprints while wearing some sort of heart monitor device apparently. He went down, the medics stepped in immediately and treated him appropriately. That's not "ignoring the medics". That's the exact opposite: it's allowing the medics to do their job and medically treat the student athletes with their best possible care. Same with one getting attention after practice. That's how it's all supposed to work.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for or not but this article notes quite a few instances where Brannen was either ignoring the medical staff, undermining them, or at least creating divisions between himself and the likes of Bob Mangine.

There are just a few medical-related ones but there's quite a bit more in that article.

Thanks. I can certainly accept that Brannen didn't always see eye-to-eye with the entire medical/athletic staff. That's far from ideal but I'm sure it happens quite a bit at many many places. In fact, a little tension might be a good thing although this anonymous version certainly makes it seem like there were probably multiple very broken relationships and things may well have become dysfunctional. Ideally, they all work it out and part of that responsibility is certainly Brannen's. But it also sounds like there were even some big divisions within the medical/athletic training staff:

Quote:For example, the athletic trainer tells Coach Brannen on January 18, 2021 @ 9:27 pm that his players have a “if you don’t feel good, don’t practice” mentality and then says “these guys just encourage each other not to practice if they don’t feel good or something hurts.” There are other text messages from the trainer to Coach Brannen with similar observations about the team as a whole and certain individual players.

But they all have a job to do. Even if Brannen did once say "F the heart monitors" according to that great source "anonymous", there's no evidence that he banned them or stopped them from being worn. In fact, it's been reported several times it was being worn by the one player who went down hard during a drill. The bottom line is there isn't even an anonymous source alleging that the medical staff was ignored or overruled.

The nasty feelings from some posters is in bad taste.

Well bearhawkeye.... There is your answer... If anyone can defend brannen at this point, well you are basically on a level of antivaxxer, flat earthen types. At this point no one can change your mind and you're just being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn and not wanting to admit that you were wrong.

I don't know how to embed tweets, but essentially Tari's mom states that Brannen made Tari take a lyft to the out of conference game at UGA because he didn't realize his gear was in another room and Brannen had a rule he was the last on the bust. Dear god, what a lunatic.

Not sure if it's clear but I was referring to Brannen as the lunatic. Brendel has unequivocally stated numerous times that Tari's mom created zero problems for the program. Ok, so she likes twitter. So what?

I thought she was pretty entertaining on there too. Not surprised to see which posters here thought that her tweeting things to her 1,000 followers was some big issue and a reason to not want probably the most talented guy in the program back.

There are players that stood behind Bobby Knight. (hell, there are women and men that stay in abusive relationships) It doesn't mean those that voiced their concerns regarding their safety and the environment they were asked to play in were wrong. I found this passage pretty telling:

Quote:Vogt is not alone in his sentiments toward Brannen or the coach’s dismissal....But a significantly greater number of sources — including players and others close to and around the program — expressed essentially an opposite opinion of and experience with Brannen at UC. Some have spoken on the record; many have requested anonymity. But they’ve been consistent and unequivocal in their objections.

Even Vogt's support of Brannen doesn't paint Brannen in a particularly good light. Brannen should never have been hired in the first place, at least we got rid of him fast.

Yeah and Vogt isn't denying things happened either. Yes, Brannen called a meeting to try to figure out who reported him. Yes, Brannen was adversarial with Medical staff because Brannen thought he knew better. Yes, Brannen is socially awkward and Vogt could see why guys didn't have a good relationship.

The main thing Vogt says is Brannen didn't do it because he's a mean guy. Brannen did it because he knew his way worked (at NKU) and wasn't going to change. In the end, it doesn't matter if Brannen's actions were because he's an ******* or because he was extremely stubborn and unwilling to change (even with medical staff telling him he's wrong). Evil can come from good intentions. Things that worked at NKU with guys who were happy just to have a chance to play in the NCAA don't necessarily work with guys who came to play at the high-major NCAA level and have other options.

My biggest take-away is a quality coaching search would have found the issues at NKU and Brannen never should have been hired.
