Interesting tidbit about DDJ, though it's not clear whether this is more of the Fickell text message ilk. I'm guessing he still returns to play for Wes.

Wes talked about everybody he could in a recent Chad podcast and seemed excited to get DDJ out on the court for UC. It's clearly possible to have great things to say about the previous coach and your relationship with him while also deciding it's also in your best interests to stay at UC and see how it goes with the new coach you may already or eventually like a lot as well.

It's clearly in the best interest of the program for the administration to get the case settled promptly. Miller doesn't want this hanging over his program. The litigation process will be a huge distraction from prep for the upcoming season for the all involved.

Definitely agree with this. I expect a settlement in relatively short order, and I suspect Team Mars does as well.

Don't disagree with any of this, but I'm guessing the university will want it in the rearview, for better or worse.

I can’t imagine that Brannen’s attorney wants to go through full discovery given what has been alleged by multiple people inside and outside of the team regarding medical issues. My 100% uneducated guess is that Mars is looking for a quick settlement.

If I were Chief Legal Counsel for UC and I am confident in my knowledge of the facts, I would make the other side sweat for years and bury them in discovery. There are times that the best decision is to settle, to win just enough, or to win in a spectacular fashion such that your opponent is permanently discredited and you are seen as the holy savior. UC should choose the third scenario.

For the “UC can’t afford the litigation crowd”- this is going to be covered by a D&O insurance policy (Directors and Officers). A D&O covers the defense costs for UC and any indemnity if paid out.

He’s not entirely wrong.

Regardless of the atmosphere of the program under Brannen, not much has been alleged about Brannen to justify his firing for cause.

Like doss said, if you make a bad hire, you man up and pay the severance and move on.

I am fine with UC moving on from Brannen, and I am excited about coach Miller. But their maneuvers are no different than Brannen and his lawyer.

They are spinning everything and doing whatever they can to avoid making a payout.

I stated that a long time ago but the pearl clutchers wouldn’t listen because they tied themselves to standing up for a goon of a head coach.

UC won’t feel a haircut on this one way or the other.

I’d personally love for UC to release a statement that highlights the importance of standing up for the well being of student athletes and that they are in it to win it. Anyone think UCONN is flipping their lid over being in litigation with their own jerk of an ex-head coach 3 years later? Nope. They are telling he and his attorney to pound sand. Good for them.

And for being a low to mid level (at best) recruit, madsen sure seems to have a lot of troublemaker smoke surrounding him.

A coach may be motivated to tolerate some of that diva behavior from a star, not so much from a player who is bit player.

Biggest head case in the program was the head coach.

Let’s just print up and burn this thread and put it in an urn to remember its passing.
