DL is well rounded and best overall US airline for business travel.

Better than UA or AA. Alaska and Jet Blue are niche players. SWA has expanded their offerings beyond the niche player role but doesn’t have the route structure to be a primary business airline (and doesn’t have first class), great leisure option though.

Only Northwest was worse for customer service and Delta absorbed them. They're always late and they have the surliest flgiht crews. Unfortunately, being in Atlanta, United and Southwest have limited service and most others are virtually non-existent.

Delta is actually the most on time major US airline. Hawaiian beat them out in on time percentage, but Hawaiian is a niche player and it's pretty easy to be on time for their high volume island hop flights. https://www.businessinsider.com/us-airli...ays-2020-2

I've received great customer service from Delta. They quickly pick up the phone with a US based human being, they aren't scared to bend policy on things like change fees when it makes sense, and they offer same day confirmed changes through an easy process.

In flight service has has been the same as any other US based airline, except for Delta limited beverage service in coach on short (300Mi) flights. I'm in first 60%+ of the time so that doesn't really bother me that much. Their long haul international service isn't on par with the international carriers (and United Polaris is ahead excluding the A350) but I don't think there is a better domestic airline for someone that spends less than 50k a year and flies domestic for business. If you spend more and think you can get United GS then that is probably a better situation unless you are DL hub captive like ATL, DTW, MSP.

An example of Delta. On a recent flight they had mechanical problems. Flight was delayed 2 hours. Their app didn't work to notify us. We just found that out at the airport. It was getting near departure time and so I went to the desk since I didn't see any plane. It had already been delayed another 2 hours, but it wasn't updated on the airport board, there were no notifications in the airport and the app wasn't telling us anything. The agent mostly just grumbled. They only way to know was to ask an agent or look it up on the internet and ask the question. It ended up boarding AFTER a later flight. And then we got on the plane and sat for 30 minutes. Too many flights were heading off in the same direction. And of course, we were delayed behind the flight that was supposed to take off later. Think we ended up sitting on the plane for an hour.

Little info, incorrect info, planes and apps that didn't work and not a single apology by the crew or agents.

Years ago I had a flight out of Memphis to Atlanta as my business was in a town about 50 miles north. I had an early morning flight and was to return that evening. We had a flat tire on the runway and the flight was delayed almost 2 hours. Got there and took care of my business but because of the delay I missed the return flight. Delta wanted me to pay a fee for a later flight to return ignoring they were the reason I was late.
