Baseball Softball Concept
Since i cannot seem to add an image to the discussion I will add a thread with the idea I sent to the baseball coach last year. If you want to have baseball and softball share the first base / third base line to bring concessions etc together you could do that too. Make Fetterman into the BLUE MONSTER.

Since the master plan discussed reducing square footage I would thing the IT building could be expendable

Interesting.
1. I could see parking as a problem
2. The idea is to upgrade the facilities. but as tight as your concept is, where are the lockers, restrooms, concessions, bullpen, indoor hitting facility...?

having to move IT to another building would be a costly endeavor, removing current transportation building (demo soon to start) and demo of Carter Hall are costs already accounted for plus necessary to reduce footage and spaces no longer needed.

I'd go so far as to say moving any data center is cost prohibitive.

The hitting facility building from Scott Park is included on the image

As far as relocation of the data facility, these places are regularly rehabbed and there could be an opportunity to leverage that as well.

Since we have facilities staff on the discussion I defer to their knowledge on the topic

Parking behind Savage is critical to offer premium tickets IMO. Baseball/softball is ok where they are if/until SPark is sold and even then stay there as long as possible. Loosing the Carter fields would not make sense.

What is up with the land next to the new Police/OHP building?

By "up" you mean? At one point that area was going to be a recreation field, but now UT police/highway patrol.

nothing, but guessing economic crisis during pandemic has deterred interest in such a purchase, especially from public entities including City or County who previously expressed some interest

Master Plan included space for both the police building and new UT recreational fields (there remains a large green space next to that building)-but again comes down to securing the funding, plus no student rec activities in 2020 may that project less immediate. So eventual creation of those new rec fields remains a future possibility.

Also, any ongoing discussion, to your knowledge, about when or where a new Rocket alumni center may be built ??

Never heard about a new alumni center. Toledo got something like $180 million in Covid relief funds, but anything going to buy Scott Park-don't know.

new Rocket alumni center ?

UT Foundation and Alumni organizations moved into donated building as part of the WellTower property donation (and its fantastic new space), I don't think we will see any new alumni center on main campus anytime soon.

OK !!
I knew the UT foundation had acquired some prime Dorr Street property - (Welltower/Champion) land...
I probably misunderstood or misread past info about a possible new alumni center being built... - (Rocket Hall area)

RE: Baseball Softball Concept
There was some talk of a new alumni center as part of the master plan, but very soon after that plan was approved by the UT BOT, Welltower donated their property to UT and was then determined that with TBS ECHS looking for new location (on campus) the decision was made to move Foundation/Alumni to Welltower site (also home to Art on the Mall this summer) which has great meeting and spaces to hold events, and Driscoll Center has been renovated into new ECHS site-all without the need for UT to design and pay for a new building- and another step of UT moving out of Scott Park

Didn't Scott park have great meeting and spaces to hold events? What would they have done for alumni center if not for the convenient donation of the welltower site?

I googled a few other major universities and their alumni centers all seem to be on campus, with nice views and access to campus facilities. Great selling points seems to me. What's the advantage of moving to a distant business office? Access to Inverness?

I think the value of the Welltower site as a future development location for business incubator type space with the alumni center as a vocal point would be a positive

Sounds like a potential synergy.

An alumni center basically has to be a money vacuum. Right? Memories tend to do that. I would imagine that is why Alumni centers (all that I've ever seen) are on main campus. An office building? I can't envision it as something I'd cross the road for. Maybe they can make it into a nice retreat for the doers and shakers and lottery winners? Put me up in Libbey Hall with a share bathroom and greet me at the Pavillion with a free hot dog, I might keep you in the will. lol.

Scott Park was a mess and in need of major renovations.

Advantage of Welltower was no purchase or contruction cost and beautiful spaces for meeting and events in the buildings and on the grounds -ideal in many ways for Foundation and Alumni events.

UT touts Welltower as a $30 million gift. Fact is it was on the market for years at $11 million and couldn't get a buyer. Hope it doesn't become an albatross around UT's neck.

As for Scott Park, I believe UT got the state's OK to sell it about a year ago. Unlike many with delusions of grandeur, I would propose trying to find a buyer for the property (it would cost millions to tear down the buildings) and keep a small parcel with the BB and SB fields and adjoining parking lot. Put in turf fields, working lighting and better seating and dugouts for maybe $4 million and you're done. Not the ideal location, but it is reasonable.
