RE: Louisville swamp
I've listened to Justin and Chad on the press conferences and interviews and I don't have a problem with either one of them. I did enjoy coach Fick giving his best Jim Mora imitation when the young reporter (I don't know his name) asked the first question after the Peach Bowl and asked why they were running plays with so much time remaining on the play clock toward the end of the game. That was awesome.

Everybody thinks that Loserville is an embarrassment to the ACC.

Heck, I think they fit right in.

If NCAA violations were not enough consider the violation of decorum. Ricky P doing an assistant coaches wife on the table in an Italian Eatery. Bringing in hookers. Come on Man. It is a cesspool!
Many on here Wanted Slick Rick, even just couple 2 mo ago. Being a UC grad, I like being a clean program.

I know Louisville is going to position themselves as the "victim" and Gaudio as the "bad-guy"...and he's certainly not a "good guy" or noble person by any stretch of the definition...but if they didn't run a dirty program, they could avoid all this.

But then again, let's not forget that this is precisely the stuff the "average" Louisville fan really gets off on. They really do like the "black-hat" image of school that will go the "extra distance" to win, and if that offends ordinary sensibilities then so much the better.

I live in Louisville and would generally disagree with you. Most of them are sick and tired of being in the news for the wrong reasons especially because UK fans like to act high and mighty like Xavier fans. Sure you have some subset of the fanbase that doesn't care, but I don't think its higher than any other fanbase would be. People with actual UofL degrees are not happy this kind of thing keeps happening.

Bolded, that would be my take from afar as I don't think most fan bases are monolithic. I often think about Miami (FL) which is a very good academic institution but developed an unsavory reputation with their football program that they still battle today. We have perceptions of various schools, often driven by athletics, that undermine institutional reputation.

I'll only add to the X fans (which are fewer in number), OSU. Ohio State has been historically elite in football and has had a great run of late. But their fans have blinders on if they believe that program is as pure as the driven snow while in the next breath are taking shots at ours.

I divide osu fans into two groups, those that attended osu and those that didn't. It's most often the ones that didn't that end up annoying me the most and are typically the worst.

To be fair to OSU fans... they got slapped hard for Tattoogate. One-year bowl ban, three lost scholarships, coach fired. All for some free tattoos.

Meanwhile, Auburn paid their Cam Newton's father boatloads of cash and ignored the NCAA's "penalty" of banning him from the stadium. FSU gave players special treatment when investigating rapes and the theft of crab legs, and paid almost $1 million to settle the lawsuit. MSU's team doctor sexually assaulted hundreds of athletes. An LSU alumni handed out hundred dollar bills on live TV after the title game.

Not a single whiff of NCAA sanctions for any of those incidents.

Compared to their true peers, OSU is "as pure as the driven snow," and yet the NCAA singles OSU out for goofy stuff.

Who knew? Mix the lack of integrity at Louisville with the lack of integrity at Xavier and look what you get.

I'll argue that it wasn't about free tattoos. It was about the coach being informed of the free tattoos and then lying to the NCAA (twice) and the university about that knowledge. That was the real infraction.

I will say that the OSU administration doesn't seem to play the cover up game and self-reports when they discover stuff internally. They self-reported and fired the basketball coach before Matta. They self-reported Tressel and drove out a HoF coach. And even though it didn't have anything to do with rules, they turned around and suspended the next HoF coach and drove him off for bad judgement (though this one wasn't discovered internally and came out first in the press).

OSU is a complex example. They are in no way as pure as the driven snow like their fanboys like to believe. OTOH, neither are they a football uber alles cesspool like Louisville, Auburn or Florida State.

Totally agree about the difference with OSU alums and t-shirt fans. Hell, I'd say that a third of the alums that I know don't even care about sports, a third take only a passing interest in how football or basketball is doing and the last third are what we'd call fans. Their t-shirts are obnoxious as hell.

Their school is like 15 minutes north of the outer reaches of the Bronx.

Louisville men's basketball coach Chris Mack suspended without pay for 6 games
Shannon Russell, Louisville Courier Journal
Fri, August 27, 2021, 10:14 AM·2 min read

Louisville men's basketball coach Chris Mack has been suspended without pay for six games in November, the university announced Friday.

Louisville's release came less than an hour before former assistant coach Dino Gaudio was set for sentencing in his federal extortion case.

"The University concluded that while Mack was a victim of an extortion attempt by former assistant coach Dino Gaudio, Mack failed to follow University guidelines, policies, and procedures in handling the matter. The sanctions imposed upon Coach Mack are unrelated to the extortion attempt itself and the ongoing NCAA process," the statement read.

NCAA accuses Louisville, Mack of additional allegations
Fri, October 1, 2021, 10:57 AM·2 min read

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) The NCAA has amended its Notice of Allegations against Louisville, adding additional violations committed by the men's basketball program that include impermissible activities and accusations coach Chris Mack did not promote an atmosphere for compliance.

Already under review by the Independent Resolution Panel (IRP) for violations related to a college basketball corruption case detailed in a May 2020 NOA, the school received the amendment on Thursday from the governing body's Complex Case Unit.
