Lifrieri took home CAA Rookie of the Week honors. Sometimes I forget he's just a redshirt freshman, and we certainly haven't talked about him enough this season. His approach at the plate is consistently that of a total pro. He's willing to "pass the baton" to the next guy, hit to the opposite field to move runners over, and just be a consummate teammate.

Along with Hodges, Croom and others, we have a great group of freshmen and redshirt freshmen on this team.

Congrats Dillon!

Hot Bat Nets Lifrieri CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Red-shirt freshman Dillon Lifrieri was named Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday.

Lifrieri hit .533 (8-15) for the week, collecting three extra base hits, driving in four runs and scoring four runs in games against North Carolina and nationally-ranked Charlotte.

Lifrieri had collected multiple hits in each of the three games at Charlotte, including a career-high tying three in the final two games.

He raised his batting average to .309 on the season and is the fourth different Seahawk to earn Rookie of the Week honors, joining Jac Croom, Hunter Hodges and Ryan Calvert.

The Seahawks open their CAA tournament run on Thursday when they play the winner of the Elon/William & Mary game at 7 p.m. at Brooks Field.

He was lights out against Charlotte. Seemed like every time he came to the plate, good things happened. Well deserved.

Absolutely. He’s gonna have a fantastic career here. He came in with a much stronger foundation than 95+ % of freshman hitters you’ll see at this level.

He was a Arkansas commit, ranked No.126 in the nation by PG and it also doesn't hurt that he will be 22 years old in 5 months. UNCW recruits are not normally rated nationally this high and he is also draft eligible right now. You never know but I would hope that he returns next season.

That’s right, he did enter with a strong pedigree. I wouldn’t blame him at all for leaving but of course hope he stays for one more. He can be something special as both a Seahawk, however long he stays, and as a potential future pro in either case.
