Question JMU battling W&M for 6-seed via game resumption (FINAL: W&M 10, JMU 3)
Well this is nuts. More clown shoes out of the CAA from the looks of it. But fascinating nonetheless. The game will begin in the 7th inning with W&M leading 6-3. The winner grabs the 6-seed.

CAA ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF JMU/W&M BASEBALL GAME ON MAY 18

RICHMOND, Va. (May 17, 2021) – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced that James Madison and William & Mary will resume a baseball game on Tuesday, May 18 that was ended prematurely.

A CAA policy put in place for the 2021 season states that all conference baseball games should be nine innings. When the Dukes and Tribe met in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 25, the first game was mistakenly shortened to seven innings. The two teams will resume the game at 6:30 p.m. on May 18 at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg in the bottom of the seventh inning with William & Mary leading 6-3.

If for any reason the game is unable to be resumed on May 18, it will be declared a completed contest with William & Mary as the winner. The conference standings will remain unchanged and only adjusted if necessary at the conclusion of the suspended game.

This is embarrassing. The game was mistakenly shortened to seven innings?

Like, seriously, HTH does that happen? Does that mean they realized it and played 9 the second game? And if so, why not correct game 1 right then?

No one looked at the weird CAA rule book until after game 2 began, evidently. I guess they just hoped it wouldn't matter in the long run. That backfired, clearly...

JMU can take W&M's spot if they win.

Im sure that will go over well if it happens

Right, so assume there had to be some contact with the Commish office between games, so they corrected it for game 2. But, with any common sense at all, they would have said, you need to finish game 1 afterwards.

They are clearly only doing it because now it seemingly matters. Obviously JMU must have said something. If nobody said anything and the league decided this on their own, then wow. just wow. Regardless you dont get any more bush league than this. If they keep making these awful decisions, AD's will be forced to step up and make a leadership change, right? right!?!?!?!

You're right, if this is league-driven, it is even more embarrassing. If it is driven by JMU, I would also like to know when they appealed. It would be entirely different to me if they appealed in April, versus accepting the result in April, then appealing a month later when they realized it was their only chance at the tournament.

I kind of hope JMU makes the improbable come back and W&M makes a huge stink about how this was handled so that there will be noise. There should be accountability for incompetence.

Based on the posts between the 2 boards, seems like we are more upset about it than W&M LOL

I'd love to know how the coaching staff feels about this. Not what he says publicly, but the unfiltered conversations with his coaching staff.

They have to protect a three-run lead with six outs and with a rested staff. They should be fine, but it is illogical.

Unrelated, but I remember when I was on an 11-12 Little League allstar team and we were rained out in a tie game mid-6th inning. We went home and came back a day or so later, gave up a first pitch HR and drove an hour back home.

Would anyone be upset to see JMU drive there, lose, again and then head back home?

I cannot find any live stats or coverage of the "resumption" debacle anywhere. Nothing on either team's website or CAAsports.com.

Shady.

I found the link to the live stats through the W&M twitter page: http://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=351282

W&M apparently tacked on 4 more runs and won, 10-3, to secure the 6-seed.
