JBR,
Our Cards are hitting well pretty much on all cylinders for a change, but still dropped some games last week they should'nt have... I mean, what is it with Houston? We seem to have some mental block vs. those guys. Our fortunes will depend heavily on if Izzy is able come back soon and contribute and shore up the bullpen. Stechschulte, too.
Hope they give us something to cheer about, unlike those other teams we pull for!

JBR, give my regards to Ms. Hemingway!
Can't wait until things pick up around here in regards to "talking some football". This is the last hoorah for Eli...lets hope her goes out in a bang and not a bust!

He's dead isn't he? He and my Dad went to Central High School in Jacktown together. My Dad has been gone for almost 4 years now.

Would you believe I worked for Jim Buck from '80-'83? Was an accountant and later a marketing specialist for the MDAC. There were 3-4 Rebels there in a sea of Bulldogs. But we got along great. Used to go to MSU games with some of them.. I had no idea JBR went to JCHS...always assumed he was in Pelahatchie from the gitgo. He passed 3-4 years ago, I think. Was one tough cookie to work for, if you ever got crossways with him.

My Dad went to a JCHS class reunion not too many years before my Mom died. Probably in 1987 since I think they graduated in 1937. JBR was there along with Jim Livesey, another prominent graduate from that year and a member of our church in Jackson.
NOTE: SHOULD BE 1987 for the class reunion.

How many years did he serve as Agriculture Commissioner? About 50? It seemed like it was that long.

Yeah, the Cards are going to give us something more to cheer about than our diamond Rebels, I fear.
Not such a great time to be a Rebel. . . :frown:
I do so look forward to Eli whipping up on the hapless SEC defenses this fall. If ONLY we can get a running game, and Davey will come out of his shell, and our WR's will stop dropping passes (or letting them bounce off their heads into defenders' arms) etc. etc.
Gawd, I'm starting to sound like pea>NUTS! Help! :bang:
When we taking Ms. Hemingway out on the mighty Mississippi, NPR? Anywhere but the sandbar of the biting flies, that is.

I seem to recall he was first elected in 1968, and served well into the '90s.. I used to have his bio, at work, bcuz I issued his press releases for a time, on things like soil erosion awareness, the DN Rodeo, the Agri Museum, etc. Those were some interesting years for me. Made me not want to be around politics other than on TV maybe.. Tell you one thing, when Jim Buck Ross spoke, a lot of the movers and shakers in state gov't listened!
That old man could tuck away some chow at lunch, too, I've gotta tell you. We'd go over to some motel buffet in Pearl he liked, and he would mow down 2-3 full plates of heavy carbo-stuff, then order a plate of freaking tamales to finish off with. Jaysus, I don't know how he survived that as long as he did. This was in early '80s.
