Women's T&F: Allie Ostrander: 2X NCAA Steeplechase champion
Men's T&F: Jake Jacoby and Troy Kemp (NVCC HJ champ, 3X Olympic HJ)
Just Because: Torrie Wilson

Shouldn't Mt Rushmore include only players that people outside their school have heard of?

Michelle McCool didn't make the FSU list.

University of Houston:

Guy V. Lewis
Hakeem Olajuwon
Carl Lewis
Bill Yeoman

(Those are my Top 4, anyway.)

You could easily make a case for Drexler, Case Keenum, Andre Ware, and Elvin Hayes as well.

As much as we are generally thought of as a basketball school, our most dominant athletes have been football players. The first 3 guys were no-brainers: Halas, Grange and Butkus are straight up icons (not just great players). I thought about Deron Williams for the fourth spot - he’s the best basketball choice. However, Nitchske’s accolades are pretty insane - he’s basically the Packers counterpart to Butkus on the Bears.

The reason Illinois has been thought of as a basketball school is that among those four players the most recent to play at U of I was Butkus and he played there in 1964, before I was even born. Halas and Grange are legendary but I can't believe anyone here reading this ever saw either of them play in the NFL. I mean in those days football wasn't even football today. Today college football is the #1 college sport and the NFL is the #1 pro sport. Back in even Butkus's NFL days I'm not sure that was the case and college football in the 60's wasn't televised the way it is now. These four people are legendary but the fact that Illinois hasn't come up with anyone younger to come close to them says something about Illinois athletes since Butkus's days. I look at San Diego State's athletes and that's pretty impressive. If you did Illinois's athletes since 1973 (year I was born), what kind of list would you come up with?

Who’s playing for 2nd place? ?

I'd wait to see UCLA and Stanford's teams before accepting the trophy.

UCLA could be Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jackie Robinson, Troy Aikman and Jackie Joyner-Kersee?

Stanford could go with Tiger Woods, John Elway, John McEnroe and Bill Walsh?

USC would have a pretty stout group too.

I wish you guys (and I at this point) were located 1500-2000 miles east and would join the Big East. Magness is fantastic, better than RPI’s and BU’s rinks imho. DU has top notch facilities and a great fanbase. It’s made my time in Denver better overall.

The rocket was marred by that block in the back call in 1989/1990?

Bettis was probably my favorite ND player ever. Roll the bowling ball downhill.

Bettis and Rocket were exhilarating players. But IMO just not as great as the two Heisman winners.
