If you expand to 12, that means one more week for the first round. Why not expand to 16, and take more revenue?

They don't want to maximize possible revenue, they want to maximize expected profits. Having eight games in the first week means that the games start of canibalize each other's ratings ... indeed, they can't help it since there will have to be games scheduled at the same time as each other to fit them all in ... but getting those games requires paying the participants playing those games. Four games in the first week gives much more predictable ratings.

Do you believe the round of 16 games would play on the same day? Do all of the sweet 16 games play on the same day for college basketball?

Doesn't have to be all eight on Saturday, could be two on Friday evening, six on Saturday, they would still cannibalize. The NFL surely won't give way to the CFP first round for a Sunday in mid-December.

The obvious instead of expansion why not have conference networks start streaming themselves? ACC,Big 12 and SEC would have ESPN helping build their system and Big Ten with Fox. Pac 12 has to set up their own. They still could work with sling and the like or you can pay for the conference network app by itself.

I see what you’re saying but that would be the least concern. The media knows how to program to make the maximum profit. Two games on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday would work. Or one game on Wednesday, two games on Thursday and Friday and three games on Saturday would work even better. This week of the opening round would be huge.

Just to be clear though, I am a not fan of 16 team playoff. I like a 8 team playoff and still believe the 8 team playoff is the most likely scenario. However, in terms of money, I would think the 16 team playoff will generate more revenue AND more profit than a 8 team playoff or a 12 team playoff.

The decline in cable subscriptions is happening at a much greater clip than ever before.

Age 18-29 are down to a cable subscription rate of 34% in 2021 compared to 65% in 2015. This is the future folks and its dropping at a fast pace.

Sports rights are going to be under pressure without the subscriptions. College Football needs to do something now to stop the bleeding and generate interest; a 12 team playoff.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but less cable doesn't necessarily mean less viewers. That's like saying we need to stop the bleeding on phone usage because landline service is down 94%.

In other news, with horse and carriage travel down nearly 100%, it seems that Americans have stopped leaving their houses entirely.

it would be 8 games not 16, and No they likely get played Fri night, or Saturday. Possibly even on Thursday night. That being said, they are not going to 16, so it is a moot point.

Sure.

By the way, I have never said that we will see a 16 team playoff anytime soon. I merely pointed out the 16 team would generate more money than the 12 team playoff (and 8 team playoff for that matter.)

The 8 team playoff is most likely in my opinion.
