Agreed. Silly notion.

A bit of a tangent, but if we do see the MEAC finally collapse, perhaps the Celebration Bowl could be held between the SWAC champ and the best non-SWAC D1 HBCU football school. Granted, there might not be a ton of the latter group to pick from: Tennessee State, Hampton, NC A&T, and Howard at least, plus whoever else makes it out of the MEAC without dropping to D2. Also, if they're doing well enough to make the FCS playoffs, I have no idea if they'd be interested in the Celebration Bowl.

I'm actually curious what would be worth more for the MEAC a celebration bowl bid or a FCS playoff bid? I would think for the SWAC playing the best non playoff HBCU is the best option even with the MEAC still around.

As of right now thw MEAC champion is slated for the Celebration Bowl. The administrations as Hampton, NC A&T, and Tennessee State (led by Dr. William Harvey of Hampton who was the brain child of the Celebration Bowl) have pitched to Disney that the game feature the SWAC Champ vs the highest rated HBCU FCS team that failed to make the playoffs. It seems like there's some real traction that the Celebration Bowl may go this way.

Not anymore. The Hampton break up was with the MEAC was nasty but Hampton's administration quietly did a solid job mending those fences.

I don't know if scheduling a handful of hyper local and meaningful games with MEAC schools (Norfolk State and Howard) mean they've mended fences. Hampton is likelier to be conference mates with Norfolk State in the Big South or Howard in the SoCon or Patriot, than rejoin the MEAC. None of those three things will happen as long as the MEAC stays solid.

Interesting! Good to know. I assume you mean the highest-rated HBCU outside the SWAC?

The ASUN football group seems to fit what NC A&T wants to achieve—top notch, public, FCS but the Big South has better geography.

A large public HBCU sticks out like a sore thumb among the likes of Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, and Campbell—the old football schools.

Do you mean NCCU? NC A&T already got out of the MEAC, into the Big South.

Pretty sure they meant A&T, as in eventually shifting from Big South to ASun.

Sure, if the new conferences do not work out. Heck, FAMU and BC could come back too, if the SWAC doesn't work out.

IIRC, FAMU left the MEAC back in the early 2000s, I think 2002-2003, to go FBS, and when that fizzled, they came hat in hand back to the MEAC. And since it was in the MEAC's interests to have them, they took them back.

Two major impediments to that are much worse geography and the presence of Liberty. Also, it'll be easier to win the Big South in football than the A-Sun.

You can't move ahead by staying behind. Is nca&t desiring a premiere role in football?
Can they achieve that by existing in a lesser conference or will they need to aim higher.

Liberty and Coastal Carolina achieved FBS out of the Big South.

Is MEAC to Big South really that much of a higher aim?

Heck, I would argue that MEAC football is actually higher-profile than Big South football. Probably more MEAC games got aired on major outlets than Big South games.

And in 2019, MEAC football attendance was twice that of Big South attendance.

One could argue that NCAT pointed its rocket more towards the ground than the moon with this move.

The Big South is much more geographically compact whereas the MEAC spanned from Delware to Florida.

My hunch is that was the biggest motivation to move
