Georgia NIL law
Somehow I don't think this is what the athletes advocating for this had in mind.

RE: Georgia NIL law
Probably not---but in a way--I kinda like the rule. Its a team sport and while one kid might be the guy the camera focuses on in the highlight reel---10 other guys were part of making that highlight reel moment happen. Lets be honest---regardless of how good you are or how hard you work---a QB or wide out will probably have a much better shot at getting offered NIL money than a big ugly grunt on the OL. That said, while I kinda have a soft spot for the logic behind this concept---I think a 10% to 25% cap is much more reasonable. No way the kid actually doing the NIL gig should be ending up with only 25% of what he earned (and thats before taxes get involved).

RE: Georgia NIL law
This is an attempt to keep the money spread around.

The real effect of NIL will be to concentrate the money into perhaps half a dozen players at any given school. Some money will also be for team distribution for Football and Men's Basketball if no "spread the wealth" clause is in their. This will further disincentivize non-revenue sports.

It wont bring more money in just shift the distribution, and give some good earnings to a handful.

The constricting parameters of Georgia's NIL will place them at a competitive disadvantage to states without spread the wealth clauses when recruiting QBs, WRs and star Basketball players.

And that's why UGA immediately said they would not pool any earned money from NIL.

Quote:“We have no plans to provide for a pool arrangement,” UGA depute athletic director Will Lawler said, per the Athens Banner-Herald.

Further, Lawler told The Athletic, “UGA student-athletes would not have to wait a year after they leave school to receive NIL compensation.”

Yeah it's going to be a useless addition at best. And at worst schools in other states could still push the "possibility" of it happening even though they and UGA for example both know they won't use it.

Or will it give Georgia schools the best and deepest offensive and defensive lines in college football? If you arent playing a QB or highlight reel position---seems to me Georgia would be the place to be.
