100,000 fans that weekend?
Seems a tad optimistic, but maybe I'm wrong.

B'ham is looking for teams who want to use Legion Field in the future. It remains the only facility of its size in Alabama, and if this venture works out we may see more HBCU schools looking at B'ham as the place to go for big special venue games. Special games like these may attract more national TV coverage for the city as well. UAB wins by getting to play in a new stadium, and B'ham wins by having traffic at Legion Field that may be nationally TV attractive.. With so many HBCU schools in the southeast who have national reputations (like Grambling and Morehouse), B'ham may have a potential gold mine for its stadium.

With the departure of UAB from Legion Field, the city has many more open dates to sell to regional schools every fall. I wish the city well in its endeavor in attracting other games. There is nothing wrong with both the city and the Blazers coming out winners in the new decade.

I was born in B'ham in 1941 (@Carraway) and lived and worked in the city until 2005 when I moved to Cropwell. I have seen my city endure harsher treatment from its state government than UAB athletics got from Bryant,Jr's BOT. Until the 1970s, Jeffco had one of 36 state senators and 7 of 104 state representatives in Montgomery - the same as in 1901. To illustrate how far out of fair it was, after the Federal court decision, Jeffco got 7 senators and 20 representatives. In 2016 the state legislature passed a law saying a municipality (sp: B'ham) could not raise the local minimum wage above the federal level. We are the "Work Cheap" state and proud of it.

Has anyone ever explained why after the city voted in 1962 to change to a Mayor/Council form, the state's powers supported the commissioners to remain in power during the era of fire hoses, police dogs and mob assaults on protestors during 1963 (that made the city nationally famous)? Maybe they liked the commissioner's behavior so much, they copied it later at the Selma bridge on "Bloody Sunday".

Even on Groundhog Day, I will promote progress for my city and my UAB Blazers.

100k is a bit of a stretch. Miles's homecoming is BIG and the Skegee/Morehouse game is oddly placed in Birmingham. It had been played for over 80 years in Columbus, Ga so we'll see if having the game in Birmingham will help improve the numbers. The game would sell out in Columbus and fans have been asking for a larger venue for a while now.

Larger venue -- right up Legion Field's offering. Keep them coming B'ham.

Lord have mercy the BJCC area will be insane. With Comic con and this game, parking will be a nightmare. But hey, I love seeing some foot traffic downtown. This is exciting!
