Would you rather see an expanded playoff or a major realignment?
A simple question for everyone: which would you rather see, an expanded playoff or major conference realignment?

Both.

What I want to see is one of P5 dissolves or merges with another P5 conference, and the playoff expands to 4-1-3.

Tired of realignment. Also think the powers that be need to sort out other issues before thinking about reshuffling the deck chairs again.

I'd like to see an 8 team playoff, essentially incentivize OU and Texas to stay put for a few more years. Hope the P5 stays the same. More interested in the P12 getting it's media package and operations in better order to maximize their product and compete again regularly for National titles.

Expanded playoff 100%

I'm not sure why anyone would want major realignment unless they're a G5 team being promoted to P5.

I think an expanded playoff would eliminate the need for any major realignment. So expanded playoff for me

Expanded playoff. But only 6 or 8. No G5 autobid

You’re the type of guy that would rank a 13-0 AAC team #9 in that scenario behind a 9-3 BXII team.

Yeah, should be 6 with the six spot being a wildcard and that can go to the highest rated G-5 or independent.

Both.. want expanded playoffs AND smaller conferences/divisions.. 12 should be the absolute max, but 10 is the perfect number..9 conf games, 3 OOC games

fight me.

The point of a spot for the G5 would be to throw a bone to the lesser-resourced schools of FBS. Notre Dame is certainly not lesser-resourced and should not be eligible for the 6th spot in this scenario.

RE: Would you rather see an expanded playoff or a major realignment?
Even as someone that loves writing about conference realignment, I definitely have no personal need for a major realignment as a fan. It is a fascinating topic for my brain and I’ll talk about it all day, but I don’t really want it in my heart at this point.

On the other hand, I won’t rest until there’s an expanded playoff. There’s nothing that I personally want more in sports than at least an 8-team college football playoff with P5 auto-bids. The postseason will feel incomplete every single year for me until that happens.

I say both P5 go to 14 and G5 go to 12. Playoff is 8 or 12. Semi finals at new year 6 bowls if 8 team playoff then quarterfinals week before semi's. No autobids but G5 gets a spot if ranked in the top 15.

Expanded playoff.

I don't want to see a major realignment, because something is always damaged in the chase for more money. Realignments are never pursued "to fix things that bug some fans about the current way things are done", they are always pursued to try to grow the cash flows coming into the biggest programs.

While I want to see a G5 make it to the playoffs, autobid isn't the answer. What if the best G5 has two losses and simply isn't in the same league as the other playoff contenders. We don't need an embarrassing game, and face it, that G5 team will be put up against the number one team in the nation. I want it to be an eight team playoff with an autobid to a G5 only if they are undefeated and have achieved this with a predetermined strength of schedule.

I think an autobid is fine. P5s get blown out in most of the CFP games as well.

And what if the P12 champ is 9-4 or 10-3, after the championship game. That is just as likely than the best G5 being 11-2. As long as champs have an auto bid, there will be years where you get some one who doesn't belong. Bottom line is with 2 at large, you can't say the best 3 to 5 teams are not in the 8.

expand playoff to 16, every conference gets autobids, 6 at larges. Play on higher seeds campus until semi's, then play it out like we do now.

Expanded playoff.

Major realignment was fun back in 2010. It's stale now, and it destroys CFB even when it's "fun".

I agree (and I say that as someone that is far from being a G5 populist).

The main benefit from an expanded playoff is the ability to actually have some objective unambiguous 100% on-the-field spots via auto-bids. There are going to be some years where that causes some "unintended" teams to make it to the playoff... but THAT'S CALLED FREAKING SPORTS. Why the heck are we watching sports if we just want a predictable predetermined outcome where on-the-field achievements can just be thrown out by a bunch of old guys sitting in a conference room in Dallas? I feel like some fans have Stockholm Syndrome with the Russian figure skating judge process that we have always had for college football. It's as if though people forgot what watching sports is all about!
