There are some saying the Gates divorce and the Bezos divorce are both staged so they can massively liquidate assets nearly tax free.

I'm not saying it's true, I just read a conversation about it.

That’s a bit of a leap. Or maybe they already know that Gates have already decided how to split the money and there is no request for spousal support. So there is no need for the lefties to beat their chest over someone else’s divorce and hoping it gets “ugly”

Very publicly giving money to your own foundation and controlling how every dollar is spent is not charity, it’s vanity wrapped around an agenda encased in tax avoidance.

That's ridiculous. The Gates and Warren Buffet have pledged to give most of their money to charity and are working together to try to get more billionaires to make the same pledge. Yet you're so brainwashed that these people are evil that you'd come up with that kind of response. Do you not recall that Republicans are supposedly pro-big corporation and big business? Whatever happened to that ideal?! It goes out the window if they give their money to charity?!

Since when is being able to read considered stupid? What I wrote above was just a quote I copied after googling a description of the organization from multiple sources. Or how about this on wikipedia:

Gates estimated net worth is 130 plus billion. At 47 billion (and the Gates' didn't give all of the funds in the Gates Foundation) he's simply covering his tax liability with charitable contributions that give him a lot of free publicity. The tax rate on a billion is nearly half. I'm sure Banker could tell you exactly. So he'll write off business overhead which is tremendous, get some other deductions on deferred wealth, etc, and write a nice check to the Gates' Foundation to cover the rest. And he gets to do that while his employees have no such deductions, except for executives, and they all pay taxes, and high ones at that if they live and work on the West Coast. The super rich have been doing these kinds of things for nearly 200 years here and political party has nothing to do with it.

Yep. Billionaires don't view money as consumption; they view it as power.

The Gates Foundation has a $49 billion portfolio (as of 2019). It is the largest individual shareholder of Ecolab, Waste Management, Caterpillar, Canadian National Railway, and hold large stakes in other firms like UPS and FedEx.

Who controls the votes of the Gates Foundation? Bill Gates.

In 2019, the Gates Foundation earned $8.8 billion in dividends and capital gains. That was all tax-free. About $3 billion of that was reinvested, increasing Gates' voting power.

So the Foundation allows Gates (and eventually, his children) to maintain control of large swaths of corporate America without paying taxes.

Well, they are members of Soros’ billionaire club. You know the one that payed for stealing the election, bought the media, pushes open borders (of the US only), pays for abortions (mostly in black Africa) and is pushing a set world population via vague and mysterious methods.
But if they are going to give away their wealth why don’t they get to it? It is reported that Gates has made as much as $1 billion off of his ‘vaccine’ investments in this pandemic. So he had better get to giving.

Idiots think he is doing such great work giving so much money to ”charity”. They don’t realize it reduces his lifestyle exactly ZERO. He never could spend it all anyway. I do not worship nor give praise to Bill Gates. He is not an example of selflessness and thinking of others.

I remember a story from a book I once read about giving. While the rich beat their chest and proclaim to be righteous while giving a very small portion of their wealth to charity, the real righteous was the poor widow who gave all she had.

BTW, as for as Gates and his success as a businessman, no one would ever say that he was fabulously successful but why do the progressives not hate him? He could have paid his employees more, right? Why didn’t the janitors and runners and mailroom workers get rich right along with him? Why didn’t he share more of his profit with the little guy? Just wondering how you progressives choose your heroes.

1. To Captain Bearcat, I wonder how much money Gates pumped into FedEx and UPS just prior to the COVID outbreak?

2. To both Captain Bearcat and Was So Miss Eagle humanitarians, regardless of the money they give to anything, don't have multiple visits with, or trips with, a Jeffrey Epstein, ever! People who do are predators, not humanitarians.

RE: Bill & Melinda Split
Quote:Bill Gates, the co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft, who is worth a reported $134.1 billion and announced his divorce from his wife Melinda after 27 years of marriage on Monday, reportedly had an agreement with his wife for years that he could spend one weekend a year with his former girlfriend, Ann Winblad, at the beach.

Gates, 65, and Ann Winblad, 70, dated in the 80s but broke up in 1987, the year he met Melinda. Winblad founded Open Systems Inc., an accounting software company that eventually sold for over $15 million six years later, then launched the nation’s first venture capital firm focused exclusively on software, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, which reportedly financed 80 software startups.

Winblad is currently married to San Francisco private investigator Edward Alex Kline, the younger brother of actor Kevin Kline.

TIME Magazine reported in 1997, “Gates has an arrangement with his wife that he and Winblad can keep one vacation tradition alive. Every spring, as they have for more than a decade, Gates spends a long weekend with Winblad at her beach cottage on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where they ride dune buggies, hang-glide and walk on the beach. ‘We can play putt-putt while discussing biotechnology,’ Gates says. Winblad puts it more grandly. ‘We share our thoughts about the world and ourselves,’ she says. ‘And we marvel about how, as two young overachievers, we began a great adventure on the fringes of a little-known industry and it landed us at the center of an amazing universe.’”

TIME reported that Gates and Winblad met in 1984 and “started going on ‘virtual dates’ by driving to the same movie at the same time in different cities and discussing it on their cell phones.” TIME added:

They were kindred minds as well as spirits. On a vacation to Brazil, he took James Watson’s 1,100-page textbook, Molecular Biology of the Gene, and they studied bioengineering together. On another vacation, to a Santa Barbara, California, ranch, she took tapes of Richard Feynman’s lectures at Cornell, and they studied physics.

And on a larger excursion with friends to central Africa, which ended at some beach cottages on an island off Zanzibar, among their companions was anthropologist Donald Johanson, known for his work on the human ancestor Lucy, who helped teach them about human evolution. In the evenings on each trip they would go to the beach with four or five other couples for bonfires, Hood Canal-style games and a tradition they called the sing-down, where each team is given a word and has to come up with songs that feature it.

TIME reported that despite the fact that they broke up in 1987, “partly because Winblad, five years older, was more ready for marriage,” they stayed close friends. Gates told TIME, “When I was off on my own thinking about marrying Melinda … I called Ann and asked for her approval.”

In 2013, Winblad told the Silicon Valley Business Journal that she and Gates met in 1984, recalling, “Bill and I went for a walk on a beach and Bill tells me, ‘I can see my way, if I really squint, to $500 million in revenue.’ In 1984 there was not yet a software company that had achieved $100 million in revenue. Bill was a great influence on me and I was thinking, wow, you can actually build a company that big in the software industry? Are you kidding me? I remember making him take a stick or a rock and drawing the numbers out on the sand for me. How was he going to get there?”

She continued, “He then said, ‘What troubles me is I can’t see how I am going to get past $500 million.’ I thought, ‘You’re troubled about that?’”

On Monday, Gates and his wife posted a statement reading:

After a great deal of thought and a lot of work, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue to work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.

Kevin Kline somehow married Phobe Cates. No idea how he pulled that off but he's a hero in my book.

You can't be that stupid.

Since when is being able to read considered stupid? What I wrote above was just a quote I copied after googling a description of the organization from multiple sources. Or how about this on wikipedia:

".. is reported to be the largest private foundation in the world,[5] holding $46.9 billion in assets.[3] The primary goals of the foundation are to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty across the world, and to expand educational opportunities and access to information technology in the U.S."

What part of this is "stupid"?! 01-wingedeagle

They probably do give to a lot of good causes, but they are also using that to push their social agenda beliefs. They know better than you do after all, because they have more money than you 01-ncaabbs

What social agenda beliefs? Be more specific? The fact they advocate a "science-based" approach to solving problems?! Is that what you have a problem with? He is a world renowned geek after-all who built one of the greatest American corporations. Yet somehow he is evil for giving his money away to help solve the worlds problems based on science?!

I've also read that either he or the Foundation has been buying up huge swaths of land all over the U.S., purchasing huge farms/ranches when available. One thing no one can ever really make more of, real estate.
