Mind you, UTEP was in C-USA long before ODU ever joined. Rice has also been in the conference as long as UTEP has. The only schools who have been in this conference longer are UAB and Southern Miss. In fact, four of the five schools who have been in the conference the longest are in the Western Division, Marshall being the only exception.
Are you sure you are remembering it correct? I personally never complained about CUSA myself because i am pretty well aware that there is no such thing as perfect conference for any of us for long. Things change and we ***** and moan all the time.
If you never complained before I'm glad to hear it, because as you said, there is no perfect conference and things do change. What I was referencing though was your complaisance on this topic with mturn017's sentiments...

This.
Okay i am not sure how you are inferencing my agreement with "UTEP taking along another TX school with it" to not liking Texas schools altogether. I would say the same if it comes to another eastern school if it happens but the chances of UTEP going with another Texas school are high than say from one in the eastern seaboard. I actually like UTEP they have some passionate Basketball fans and can support it better than anyone in the conference when they are playing good but unfortunately for them things didn't look good for the past few years.
Fair enough.
All good

CUSA has proved that model doesn't work. We have eight members in the top 50 TV markets compared to their four. Each team in CUSA makes 400k per year while they make 4 million.

I have been preaching this until the cows come home. Yet here we are talking about the AAC adding schools in two new time zones.

They wouldn’t be adding markets. They be adding valuable winning programs.

Honestly, if you lose UTEP, I think you sit at 13. Even if you wanted a 14th I don’t think there’s a candidate who could get enough votes, assuming you need a 2/3rds or 3/4ths vote as opposed to a simple majority.

I think if that happens there is a higher chance for MWC to approach either UTSA or UNT before they go further East or South.
Rice is the other option. I’m hearing Boise is on the verge of going and SDSU might be heading that way too. Apparently there is another school being discussed (AF?) so we might lose one, two or three schools if they do. Just depends on if the MW gets desperate.
lol Where did you hear that from? The delusional P6 message board, reading that board is pure comedy.
No credible source for that information

RE: If UTEP left for MW
Boise and SDSU are not leaving the MWC for another G5 conference like the AAC.
Makes no sense, pay exorbitant exit fees, increased travel, playing in eastern time zone. All for a measly 1 million, with no increase in exposure. All to play the likes of Tulsa, ECU, Tulane, SMU
Yeah not happening

RE: If UTEP left for MW
If UTEP left for MWC; they'd probably be better off and so would we. Sometimes I think we miss some practical points. MWC has only the PAC-12 casting a shadow over their operations. CUSA sits in the footprint of THREE (count-em THREE) Cartel Conferences. The SEC, B12, and ACC with some smaller shadows cast from AAC and Sun Belt. Face it MWC makes more money with less teams cause in some states and markets they are relevant with less direct competition for dollars. CUSA has too dang many mouths to feed. Add nobody if anybody leaves.

UTEP isn't going anywhere. They aren't even worthy of CUSA let alone MWC.

I respectfully disagree. Tech has been a conference mate with UTEP for over 13 years with two separate conferences. I have always had a respect for them and hope to continue playing them in all sport in the future.

Wow. Sometimes you refer to UTEP as "We" and sometimes "They". But, you never have anything positive to say. With "Fans" like you we don't any more adversary s.
Welcome to my ignore list and good riddance!

The Mountain West would have to lose more than half of the teams before they became desperate enough to look at FCS teams. Especially in the no-mans TV & recruiting land like the Dakotas.
If/When the MWC expands I believe the list will look like this:
The MWC wants into Texas first. Any of the C-USA/Sun Belt football playing teams in Texas will get first choice to say yes/no. If there is still any openings, New Mexico St. is there lifting up her skirt. I don't think the MWC will look east of Texas for any schools.
Once that is done, IF there is still a need, then it depends upon who left. If it's a lot of Cali schools that left, then look at Cal-Davis, Sacramento St and Cal Poly. Portland St possibly IF they get a stadium to play in. The Montana schools want to be a big fish in a small pond. But may move up if they see the Big Sky getting decimated. Idaho maybe if the Montana schools come, but they still need to resolve their football stadium issue. Northern Arizona gets them into a new market if the MWC is desperate enough for FCS and if NAU really wants to move up. Weber State has no chance if Utah State is still in the league. The remaining FCS schools in the west don't really have a chance at this point in time. The Dakota schools do not bring anything to the table and are too far east.

I disagree somewhat, North Dakota State is a powerhouse in football, they would immediately replace what Boise State could have offered.
I would not be shocked if they get the MWC invite.

Here is a scary option that could occur...
What if Boise left and the MWC went to Texas to back fill, but instead of inviting UTEP, they offer Rice, North Texas, and UTSA. That would be a masterful move that would place further strain on C-USA.
The MWC would have easy divisions with a new foothold in the central time zone and Texas recruiting...
East
New Mexico
Colorado State
Air Force
Rice
North Texas
UTSA
West
San Diego State
Fresno State
San Jose State
Utah State
Wyoming
Hawaii
While C-USA would be left with 11 programs and 888 miles separating UTEP from their nearest C-USA partner LA Tech.
This would be a horrible situation for C-USA.
C-USA
Marshall
UAB
Southern Miss
LA Tech
FAU
WKU
MTSU
FIU
Charlotte
ODU
UTEP
No, that'd just be a horrible strain for UTEP, which would then be forced to:
a) continue in a conference that has no easy trips for them
b) move to the Sun Belt, which isn't much better for them but at least can offer Texas State and UT-Arlington
c) go indy in football and WAC in all other sports
d) move to the WAC in all sports and downgrade football to FCS (or do indy football for a few years and then move if the WAC ever flips the switch on FBS).
None of them would be paricularly sexy options.
Yeah, it’d be a blow for UTEP for sure. CUSA would likely feel UTEP out maybe give them a nudge. In the end we’d probably just add NMSU as a travel partner and move on. It’d actually improve the travel situation for the eastern schools.
UTEP has been in C-USA longer than everyone but UAB and Southern Miss. They came in with Rice and Marshall back in 2005. I don't think they are going to be nudged anywhere. If this situation were to play out, there would be no real option for UTEP, but to stay in C-USA and try to rebuild the Western Division.
Add one and slide an eastern team over (probably MT or WKU). Not a great solution, but probably the only possibility that could gain enough support. Something like this maybe...
East
Marshall
FAU
FIU
Charlotte
ODU
MTSU
West
LA Tech
Southern Miss
UAB
WKU
UTEP
Texas State? (Not sure if ULL or Arkansas State would be interested)

They’d have few options and would likely stay, we certainly wouldn’t vote them out. I still think NMSU would be the logical option and their MBB is decent. Don’t know if UTEP would block them. The East would have very little interest in building up the west.

If that happened UTEP would probably join the WAC. It should be FBS by then. CUSA stays at 10 and everyone is happy.

If UTEP joined the MW I would be sad. I always enjoyed that Charlotte teams can fly out on Sunday, cross in the international date line on their way there, and play a Saturday game.

Precisely. What other conference can offer a chance to travel so far and yet arrive back home before the game starts. Or something like that.
