I hate the Steelers, so I would feel gross about him going there. That said, it's probably a good landing spot. Tons of organizational stability, which is important for a young QB.

I am a Steelers fan, and I would prefer Dez go to another team. UNLESS Dez REALLY improves his passing this coming season.

Have the Bearcats ever had two players picked in round #1 before?

Dudes, we're going to get a lot of coverage for our beloved program this year in part because of Rid. IMO, if he has a fantastic season he may be a top five pick. Look who's the featured picture in the CBS article...

2022 NFL Mock Draft: Vikings find Kirk Cousins' replacement as five quarterbacks go in top 13

It should be another quality QB class in 2022; the Lions, Eagles, Raiders and WFT also grab one early

Rid First Round #13 to the Vikes & Gardner #29 to the Ravens

Yeah...you want something that could genuinely alter the trajectory of Bearcats football for generations? Give Fickell 4 guys who he developed drafted in the first two rounds this coming season (Ridder, Gardner, Saunders, and Whyle) along with a playoff berth to lay on the table in recruiting...he just might turn us into the next Clemson after all.

It's so true.

I think back on Miami (FL) decades ago as a somewhat obscure program and remember how a couple of great coaches and Florida talent built a national championship program there. Different times for sure, but who could have imagined the day Fickell stood at the podium after the Tuberville years that UC would soon have an undefeated season, conference championship, top ten ranking, and NY6 bowl?

In the coming couple of months, envious haters from other schools will join a chorus of talking heads of sports suggesting this will be Fickell's last year at Cincinnati. It could always happen that way. But it appears UC has this time, by design or a confluence of fortunate circumstances, built a situation that could endure. An Ohio guy who values his family's well being, living in the best city in the state and building a top ten program with many Ohio recruits. He could stay longer than many imagine.

In year 4, Dabo made the Orange Bowl and lost.
In year 4, Fick made the Peach Bowl and lost.

In year 5, Dabo won the Peach Bowl, year 8 took Clemson to the BCS.

If UC goes 11-1 or 12-0*-- they probably end up in the Peach Bowl and Fick has a chance to emulate Dabo once more with a win.

* Outside chance of BCS-- but I really feel the playoff committee chairman wants nothing to do with a non P5 team in the 4 team playoff.

RE: WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft
I have a hard time imagining the committee saying no to an undefeated UC team that beats Notre Dame and a 9-win Indiana squad.

If they're at all smart, they're looking for a worthy team like UC to prove that they DO give a chance to G5 teams. It might put off the expansion to an 8-team playoff by a few more years and extend the playoff committee's relevance.

I agree but the thing in our favor is more and more of the sports media types and fans want to see a "cinderella" or at least someone other than Bama, Ohio St., Clemson, Oklahoma, etc., in the CFP. If we go undefeated with our schedule then that takes away what they said kept us out last season - we didn't play any P5 teams in non-conference. In any event, let's beat Indiana and Notre Dame first before thinking too hard on it. We also have to run the table against teams in our own conference who are familiar with us and ready to take down Big Fick and Co.

This is my concern... if UC is fortunate enough to beat both ND and IU but loses to say a 20 something ranked AAC team, the argument will be that a one loss ND lost to a top 10 or 15 UC, while UC lost to a top 20ish or worse AAC team... After we beat ND and IU, it will be more important than ever to try and run the AAC table

RE: WAY WAY WAY Too Early 2022 NFL Draft
Last year, I was pretty hopeful that if UC ran the table this year-- they could make the playoffs.

I think they could make the playoffs if they go undefeated, but it's not guaranteed, unlike any P5 team who is guaranteed the playoff if they go undefeated.

My concerns stem from the following.

1.) Indiana and Notre Dame both have to have good years. If they end up 8-4/7-5/6-6-- then that doesn't help UC's cause. If both can go 10-2, then that helps UC.

2.) UC needs to beat the tar out of teams this year-- they need to run up the score. Remember a few years ago when Clemson only beat UNC by 1 point and articles popped up the next week about how Clemson wasn't good enough. (Even though they had just won the Championship?) UC needs to run up the score on everyone.

3.) Who can UC beat out for a top 4 spot? SEC is basically guaranteed, so there are 3 spots now. After listening to a friend talk about how tOSU's defense is better and the amazing wealth of talent they have at WR (and 3 talented, albeit inexperienced QB options,) I'm concerned that tOSU can run the table-- and that takes the 2nd spot.

I'm high on Oklahoma this year-- and they have Iowa State @ home. Oklahoma has a good shot to run the table as well, but they always seem to screw up and lose 1 game they shouldn't.

Clemson? Have to hope they lose to Georgia-- but can UC get in ahead of them if they go 11-1? Feels like they need a 2nd loss. Pac-12? Oregon will lose to Ohio State and probably another team. I have faith the Pac-12 winner, whomever it may be, will have 2 losses.

My concern is that UC can only beat out 2 loss P5 teams, and thus, what are the chances that there are only 3 undefeated or 1 loss P5 teams ahead of them?

I'd like to believe that an undefeated UC could beat out a 12-1 Oklahoma or 12-1 Ohio State-- but I have my doubts. Alot has to go right for UC, and that mainly involves winning big every week and hoping Indiana and Notre Dame have very good years.

Regardless. I am so looking forward to this season, and I am hoping to make as many road trips as I can. Last year, we all missed out as fans going to the game and enjoying that special season. I am hopeful that UC will be great again this year, and I look forward to enjoying the ride.

It will help us to also begin the season in the AP top 10 if that happens. I realize it ultimately comes down to the CFP rankings but staying in the top cusp of teams will keep us in the public eye. Lots to be thankful for in terms of things aligning for us to have a legit shot.

If ND and Indiana are both 10-2 at the end of the year, we will have two Top 15 wins (maybe two top 10 wins, because that would imply they go 10-1 against their remaining schedules, both very difficult), along with probably two more Top 25 wins from our conference. I highly doubt we would be left out for a 1-loss P5 team with that resume...and if we are, the playoff expansion din from last year would turn into a roar loader than any we've heard in quite some time.

Long story short; I basically agree. If UC goes 13-0 with road wins at good IU and ND teams and is dominant against our conference we're going to go the playoff as long as there aren't 4 undefeated P5 champs which never happens. If IU and ND both have less than expected years it becomes really tough to find a road to the playoff.

Oh, I forgot to add that it would help if UCF and another AAC team (maybe Memphis) had an awesome year as well.

UCF plays Boise and Louisville-- and if UCF can somehow go 11-1, with their only loss to UC-- then that is another ranked, quality win for UC.

4 ranked wins for UC would be nice.

Basically we are all rooting like crazy for every AAC team to do well in their non conference schedule. Some big non conference games for the other AAC teams.

Tulane vs Oklahoma. Tulsa vs tOSU, USF vs Florida etc. I don't expect wins there, but good showings will be nice.

Not to mention, non powerhouse P5 teams like OK State, NC STate, Miss State, Texas Tech, TCU, South Carolina, Rutgers etc etc. Those are the games that the teams need to win to help raise the profile of the AAC.

It really is imperative for UC to beat Indiana and ND for the good of the conference. The only way for the AAC to earn respect is by getting wins, and it's up to the 2 premier teams in the league, UC and UCF to start beating these P5 teams on a regular basis every year.

Sorry-- this really should be in the 2021 thread, not the 2022 NFL draft thread. Sorry for the off topic.
