Compared to Cisse, he looks like he has a much better feel for the game, much better shot around the goal, better understanding of help defense, probably a little slower jump rebounding. Like most young bigs, he's likely to find the pace difficult initially too. Hope he can shoot FTs & stay out of foul trouble.

I know its a highlight video and only shows the good, but this guy has way better hands receiving a pass and better court vision dishing it out of the post than Cisse did in his one year here. I think his game will elevate our guard play as long as they are staying in motion on the perimeter and getting open for the 3pt shot. He may be a little slower than Cisse's speed, but I will take that all day as long as he can catch a pass in the post or off a pick and roll.

RE: I believe in Sam Onu
Once he get used to the speed of the "game" he will actually seem faster, s he can complete moves;finish through contact and like many here have eluded to, has keen awareness of his positioning on the floor (especially with his footwork) however the most glaring and important component to all of this, is being able to receive the ball.....That was obviously and issue for Cisse.....and Sm is light years ahead in many areas.....Get him on a strength program and he will be a force, even more so than Wise IMHO......Hope he stays a couple of years

Better hands and seems to have a better understanding of the game than Moussa, however Moussa is far more athletic. This guy will give us a much needed inside scoring option other than DeAndre.

One was ranked top 10 in his class, one outside the top 100.

Please don't let this thread be a new "stupid expectations from empty posters."

I hate losing Cisse. I think his presence on the defensive side of the ball was very much underestimated. Even if it didn't show up in the box score, he was a great rim protector. When he was in the game, so long as he didn't drift out to the perimeter, very few points were scored against us in the paint. And that' because he was altering shots and forcing other teams to settle for jump shots.

RE: I believe in Sam Onu
Cisse was really good for a frosh.

Then take into account:

He reclassed from a small school to college.
He only turned 18 last June.
Because of Covid, he didn't get a full summer practicing and working out with other Tigers.

Cisse showed a lot of improvement as the season went on. His hands were always of issue, but so much of that seemed to be issues with pass location (too low) or trying to weave in bullets at a short distance. Guys like Nolley had little rapport with Cisse in terms of have a feel for lob vs. regular pass, etc.

Ideally that would have been remedied over the summer with the opportunity for those guys to play more and know where guys go to spots were.

Very much like Brady and Coxie 2018 vs. 2019. They didn't really have a great connection then the summer of 2019 they worked together on unspoken signals, knowing where to expect passes and where to best get the ball.

Reasonable ones.

Hoping Sam can give us a couple good minutes a game. Get some experience but not be disappointed when he's a 3 and 3 guy at the end of the year.

You all forget you are watching a high school highlight clip reel... Moussa looked absolutely dominate in his clips. Again, I think Sam will have a great career here but if you are expecting him to play more than 10-12 minutes a game and be more than a 5 ppg and 5 rebounds then you are setting yourself up for disappointment... Honestly I would be thrilled if he was close to 5 and 5 and protected the rim. A good rim protector and rebounder is what we really need out of him.

I’m pulling for the whole team to get accustomed to each other’s weaknesses and strengthens and play accordingly

There really is no point in comparing the 2 players. Let Moussa go unless you want to become a Seminole hatchet fan. He did get picked up by Florida St... right?

Chandler Lawson has a ridiculous 7'6" wing span. He could start in the frontcourt alongside DW. BTW, that wingspan is higher than anyone's on this year's and last year's roster.

I would expect a bit better than Malcolms Freshman year...

If he gets 20 minutes a game 6.5 pts 4 rebounds.

He will not have nearly the impact on Defense that Cisse presented at the end of the year.

Cisse could have practiced FT's alone, on his own time, etc. - don't need teammates, organized practice sessions to practice freebies. Roll out a ball and line up at the FT line.

Lol...

You watch that video and you would think Cisse was a threat from the 3 point line.

Excellent point. I think some people are ignoring his strengths and how they can fit into the overall picture
